Working with young people who self-harm
Monday 7 September, Edinburgh
Wednesday 7 October, Cardiff
Self-harm is a widespread problem among young people and can be a difficult subject to address. As many practitioners work with this age group are likely to encounter self-harm, the main aim of this event is to improve your knowledge and develop confidence for work in this area.
These two similar events will introduce key concepts and offer tools to support working with this client group. In the morning we will explore our understanding of self-harm, why it is so prevalent among the young, and delve deeper with the intervention led-framework and consideration of shame and secrecy.
We will then move onto explore influences on young people, including the cultural context and impact of technology and social media. Fianly, there will be presentations on the disclosure of self-harm and making safe and ethical referrals.
