About me and my therapy practice
I offer you a safe, non-judgmental, confidential and supportive yet also gently challenging therapeutic space to help you tackle difficult areas of your life. I have wide-ranging professional skills with 20 years' experience of working with individuals and clients from all walks of life.
I am an integrative counsellor with a person-centred attitude towards working with you - believing you have the inner resources to make the changes you need and want in your life or behaviour. However, I also know you may need encouragement and support to believe this and to make longlasting changes. So I see myself as a facilitator of your change, working alongside you, being curious with you about yourself, and helping you to ask and answer the questions to get to the heart of what may be causing your difficulties at this time.
Clients tell me I have an empathic awareness of where they are in their lives and intuitively know how to help facilitate their healing, change and growth.

My first session
I usually offer an initial phone chat before a client(s) decides to arrange a first session where I explain my experience and qualifications and the way in which I work.
Clients can tell me a little bit about what they'd like to explore. I try to encourage clients to wait until the first session to go into a lot of detail as I don't wish anyone to get upset on the phone before we have enough time to really talk about their issues.
I send across a client information form to be filled in and sent back, and a client-therapist agreement to read through and sign and date the final page. This can be done during the first session if preferred.
The first session usually lasts about an hour and we gently explore the issue(s) someone would like to explore in therapy. It can be that this is difficult to define, and that's fine. We can take time to talk through why and how you are feeling as you are, it doesn't have to be carefully explained. It's often hard to put into words at the beginning.
Then we meet for our first session . . .

About me and my therapy practice
I have worked as a Supervisor from the Hawkins-Shohet integrative relational supervisory model for 16 years. This enables me to work with people from across a wide variety of helping professions. This framework explores all the different underlying relationships in the main supervisory relationship - client/counsellor; counsellor/supervisor; and also that of supervisor/client. I can explain more about my approach in an initial introductory phone session with you.
In my own therapy practice I also work in an integrative way.
I work with counsellors, trainee counsellors, mental health workers, family support workers, teachers, nurses, medical staff, children's support workers, prison staff, police, alongside fire and ambulance staff. The model I work within enables me to work with people from all helping professions to assist and support them in their work and to give them an independent place to discuss challenges and difficulties away from their workplaces.
My first session
I always offer any prospective new supervisee an opportunity to chat with me first to talk about any needs they may have from supervision and to explain my training, background and supervisory experience.
This usually might take upto half an hour and I do not charge for this initial session. I would explain anything the potential supervisee would like to know, including session costs.
I would then email across a supervision agreement to explore and sign before we agree to start supervision together.
