About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced and accredited counsellor working with individuals and couples experiencing a wide range of difficulties, or relationship issues, on both a long and a short term basis.
I also offer fortnightly or monthly Clinical Supervision sessions, either in person or via Zoom.
I have previously worked as a seminar leader and tutor on the Certificate in Counselling Skills Course at CCF in Chelmsford. I have also worked for Essex County Council as a Staff Counsellor in Occupational Health seeing council employees.
I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (WPF) as well as a BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Studies and have completed the Foundation Course in Group Analysis with the IGA. I have a Diploma in Supervision from Cambridge Supervision Training, and am qualified to train over-16's with the Award in Education and Training. I have undertaken additional training in Couples Therapy at the Tavistock Centre for Couples Relationships, and hold a Certificate in Psychosexual Studies.
I offer confidential short-term and long-term counselling for both individuals and couples, based at The Stephenson Centre in central Ipswich, close to the University and Waterfront. I also offer online counselling and supervision via Zoom.
The fee for counselling is from £60 per session for individuals and from £75 per session for couples. Concessions are available for trainee therapists.
Practice description
The aim of counselling is to provide time and space to help you reflect on your life and make sense of your current situation. Counselling is a place where you can take time to consider how you feel about your current situation, and how this situation came about. It is sometimes difficult to be able to name feelings or even to recognise them.
I aim to provide you with the opportunity to take the necessary time to discover how you do feel; maybe to re-evaluate your beliefs about yourself and your relationships with others.
Together we will work to help you understand your emotional reactions and responses.
The ultimate goal of counselling is a more rewarding life for you.
My first session
I do understand that considering counselling for the first time is not easy. You may have approached your search for a counsellor for your own reasons, or it may have been suggested to you by a friend, a family member or a healthcare professional.
Whatever the reason, it is quite understandable that you may be apprehensive when approaching your first counselling session.
In the first session, we will discuss your current situation in personal and family contexts; and if you are currently working or studying, your employment or training may also be relevant. We will discuss what in particular has brought you to consider counselling.
Sometimes clients are looking for a very specific type of counselling or therapy. In the first session it is important for us to discuss if my training and experience is appropriate and relevant for you.
This first session is really an opportunity for both of us to decide if working together would be helpful for you.

Practice description
Based at the Stephenson Centre in Ipswich, I offer clinical supervision to counsellors and other healthcare professionals. Working from the psychodynamic modality, I provide a reflective space where the joys and dilemmas of professional practice can be explored together.
My supervision training was undertaken with ASIIP (the Adlerian Society). Adler considered that encouragement was a key feature of therapeutic work. Encouragement is different from praise, and I aim to provide an encouraging space where therapists can reflect on their work with their clients.
I offer Clinical Supervision to therapists working with both individual clients and couples (couples in romantic relationships and also family members who come to sessions in pairs).
My first session
I offer a free initial discussion by Zoom or telephone (up to 30 minutes).
During this initial session we can consider your requirements for supervision. I work with both psychodynamically trained and integrative therapists. Supervisees with integrative training often want to consider the significance of the unconscious processes occurring within the therapeutic relationship.
Please feel free to contact me for further details about the service I provide.
