About me and my therapy practice
In these busy times of constantly looking and thinking ahead and due to the chronic nature of stress today, we often do not leave enough time to look within, or to replenish ourselves so that we can move forward. I can provide you with the time and space to reflect on why you are experiencing difficulty in your life and see my role as a facilitator in providing a safe and non-judgemental environment in which to help you move forward. Because I have worked through painful issues of my own, I feel that I can be more empathic with others who recognise their own need.
Practice description
I work primarily from a psychodynamic perspective. At the heart of my thinking which emanates from personal experience is a belief in the existence of an inner world through which we perceive an outer reality, where the past is alive and dynamically active in the present. My primary aim in my work is in building a therapeutic relationship based on openness and honesty which leads to trust and eventually understanding. For me, the relational aspect of my work is pivotal and research has shown that this appears to be the most important factor in the therapeutic process.
* I am currently offering counselling online or face to face. Please get in touch if you wish to have an initial conversation to see what might suit you.

About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP Accredited Psychodynamic Counsellor and Supervisor working in private practice with over 10 years post qualifying experience. I have recently qualified as a supervisor and hold a COSCA Diploma in Counselling Supervision. I have had several and varying experiences of being supervised which has shaped and influenced how I see and wish to develop my practice.
I adhere and draw on the BACP Supervision competency Framework as scaffolding for the work and welcome enquiries from therapists and student counsellors seeing supervision. Please get in touch by email at counselling@magsturner.co.uk or call me on 07792 184466 for a preliminary discussion. I offer a half hour initial meeting (no charge) to establish if we can work together and offer both face to face and online supervision (subject to government guidelines). Fee £60 per hour.
Practice description
As a supervisor my wish is to create a space in which you, the supervisee can feel stretched and challenged whilst incorporating a creative element to foster the unlocking of new ideas and thoughts. This process can allow an unloading of some of the burden whilst providing support in allowing you to be open and honest. I provide a non-judgemental safe place where you can raise difficulties in order to build your resilience in your clinical work. My aim is in forming a healthy working alliance which encourages congruence within our relationship and with clients.
I incorporate the idea of unconscious processes including transference and counter-transference to understand what influences are present and I also draw on and use the Hawkins & Shohet Seven Eyed Model and the Cyclical Model as a framework in my supervision work.
My first session
I offer an initial meeting (via Zoom, telephone or face-to-face) of half an hour free of charge. This is an opportunity for us to meet and ascertain if we can work well together. It is important that you as a supervisee find the right person to support you in your practice. Please do get in touch if you are interested.
