About me and my therapy practice
It can be a bit anxiety provoking to take the first steps in finding a counsellor. I aim to establish a welcoming, supportive space for you whether working via video link or in person. We'll explore together what has brought you to counselling at this point in your life and how your earlier life experiences and relationships may have affected you in the present. We can work together on what you would like to achieve or change through counselling.
You may find that it's easier to talk to an ‘outsider’ rather than friends or family about some issues.
I have worked as a Counsellor since 1995 in the NHS, voluntary & charitable sector and in private practice. I offer sessions both face to face and via Zoom. I'm happy to have a brief chat by phone or email to help you decide if you'd like to meet.
I specialise in helping adult people cope with grief including pregnancy & baby loss, and with trauma and with health conditions such as cancer.I am trained in EMDR therapy.
I am neurodiversity and gender affirming.
I work Mondays 9-4pm, Wednesdays between 11am -7pm subject to availability
Practice description
I'm an integrative counsellor and EMDR therapist specialising in working with bereavement including pregnancy and infant loss, trauma, and the impact of physical illness.
I work with adult individuals in private practice and also take referrals from baby loss and cancer charities.
I have personal experience of pregnancy loss and am neurodiversity aware and affirming.
My first session
When you make an initial enquiry to me it's helpful to briefly tell me the reason you are seeking therapy at this time.
I offer free brief call before making an appointment if you'd like this. The first appointment is a chance for us to meet and discuss the issues that you want to bring and what you would like to get out of coming for counselling. I will want to get an outline of your background and history and your current situation and issues/symptoms.
I may spend some time working with you to create some resources for you before we begin working on your concerns. I will listen and ask some questions to help you talk, I don't just sit in silence.
It is important for us to both feel comfortable working together.
If we decide to go ahead with further appointments, we would agree a time to meet, usually weekly.
There is no obligation to continue. Sometimes a person may decide that counselling is not for them or it may be more appropriate for you to contact another organisation or counsellor.
Some people find it helpful to have an initial appointment with more than one counsellor and then make a decision as to who they feel most comfortable with.
I offer sessions online and in person.
