About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Tamsin. I understand that taking the step to discuss what is on your mind can be unnerving. I've had therapy myself and understand that talking about feelings and the deep rooted ways we see the world is hard. I am very real and relatable. I hope you will quickly relax and we will always take things at your speed.
I have worked extensively with clients suffering with depression and anxiety, often helping clients when they decide they wish to either start or stop taking anti depressants. Many of my clients are neurodivergent, predominantly with autism ADD or ADHD. It is common for me to work with individuals with relationship issues, whether that be with a spouse, partner, family member of friend. I have worked closely to support people as they separate and divorce. I have worked with many clients that are survivors of sexual abuse and therefore have a clear understanding of what it is to work with both historical and current trauma. I have had the pleasure of working with student counsellors as they complete their university counselling course, which is always a fascinating journey to be part of.
I believe the relationship that develops between a client and counsellor is the key to therapeutic change which is why I feel it is important that we connect before you commit to therapy sessions. I offer a 30 min, free of charge online initial session so you are able to meet me and decide if my approach will be suitable for you.
I am an experienced and approachable, fully qualified humanistic counsellor. I currently work in private practice where I see individuals on either a short or long term basis, depending on requirements. I am happy to discuss your individual needs on the phone, or via email, before we meet.
Practice description
As well as working in private practice I have worked as a school counsellor so held a CRB certificate. I also worked at the As You Are Centre in Southwick. The clients accessing these settings provided me with invaluable experience working with a broad age range, with diverse issues and concerns.
Many of the clients I have had success with have been struggling with relationship issues. Sometimes with their husband, wife or partner, sometimes it is with parents and children. I believe counselling can help you see what you need from relationships and the best way forward in your given circumstances.
I have extensive experience working with survivors of abuse.
I work with a number of EAP providers and I can also accept some private health insurance providers.
I have also worked for many years in the private sector, where I trained staff and consulted with senior management. I therefore have gained insight to the stresses faced by all levels throughout a business.
My first session
If you decided to see me for counselling sessions my first priority is to create a warm, safe, non-judgmental environment, so you are able to explore the issues or decisions important to you. My role is not to advise you what to do, it is to listen to your concerns and build a trusting relationship, so you can begin to gain clarity and acceptance.
