About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor, having worked in both Primary Care (as a GP Practice Counsellor) and Occupational Health settings, and also in private practice. My original training was in Person Centred practice, but I now use a more integrative approach - drawing on other models - depending on the issues clients bring to therapy. I qualified in 1990 when I received my Diploma, and gained my Masters degree in 1994. Typically, clients may want to talk through difficulties they are experiencing - wanting to gain understanding of how and why these issues are impacting on them and wanting to acquire some coping strategies to help them live more healthily. However, if clients are just feeling that things are just "not right", that they are "not themselves" , I help them to explore their "not right-ness" in a person centred, non-directive way.
Practice description
I see individual, adult (over 18) clients. In "normal" times I see clients face to face, usually for hour long sessions. However, I am currently (as of February 2021) offering video sessions via Zoom. Clients may choose whether or not to use their camera option. I can also offer telephone session. As soon as it is safe to do so, I will resume face to face sessions to those clients who would prefer to meet with me in person.
My first session
I offer a free introductory session, during which a two-way assessment can take place. In other words, a client will decide whether he or she feels comfortable with me and we can determine whether the therapy I offer will be the most helpful and appropriate to her or him.

About me and my therapy practice
My original training was in Person-Centred therapy, but in my practice I now use an Integrative approach, particularly incorporating some CBT interventions. As a counselling trainer I wrote and delivered supervision training and supervision was included as an important and substantial element of my Masters course. The main focus of the supervision I offer depends on the length of time the supervisee has been practising and on her or his experience - this would be negotiated at the start of the relationship. An experienced practitioner may well want to use supervsion very differently from a student or newly qualified counsellor. Typically, as part of supervision we may look at parallel process, at the relationship between the supervisee and clients and we will recognise and explore ethical dilemmas, making reference to the current BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. If it is appropriate to do so, we may collaboratively help the supervisee to extend his/her range of responses and, if it is useful to do so, help the supervisee to make theoretical links in his/her practice. I see it as part of my role to monitor the supervisee’s fitness to practise, help him/her manage his/her caseload, to be aware of his/her personal limits and resources and his/her need, if appropriate, to rest or, in extreme circumstances, withdraw from counselling. We may also look at possible personal and professional development issues - at CPD and training needs/opportunities.Types of therapy
