About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling to cope with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, or other challenging emotions or circumstances?
Are you feeling stuck or unable to find a way through a difficult situation? Have things been building up and is it time to seek support?
When things are difficult, many people find themselves unwilling or unable to talk to family, friends or colleagues and this is when talking to a trained therapist can really help.
The people I work with seek therapy for many different reasons, including anxiety, lack of self confidence, depression, stress, bereavement, unwanted patterns of behaviour, trauma, relationship difficulties, struggling to cope after separation or divorce, managing life transitions or simply an indefinable sense that something isn't quite right.
Our sessions will be a private, confidential, safe place in which to talk about the things that are troubling you. I will listen with empathy to what is going on for you and help you make sense of your emotions, understand the roots of your difficulties and develop greater understanding of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. This in turn will strengthen your ability to cope and enable you to move towards positive change.
I have a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. 'Integrative' means that I draw on the most appropriate psychotherapeutic theories (e.g. psychodynamic, person-centred, transactional analysis, relational, gestalt), according to clients' individual needs and preferences.
I have been working with clients in my private therapy practice since 2017. Before that, I worked as a counsellor at the University of Roehampton and the Wimbledon Guild Counselling Service. I have also worked as a telephone adviceline counsellor for CiC, an Employee Assistance Provider.
Practice description
I work with adult clients on a one-to-one basis, offering in-person therapy in central Oxted and online via Zoom and Teams.
Some clients I work with come to explore a very specific, current concern which we may be able to address in say 6-10 sessions. Alternatively, you may wish to explore more deeply-rooted difficulties which will require longer-term work over a period of months or years.
My approach is open-ended, which means that we will regularly look at how you are progressing in sessions, and agree together when you feel ready to bring your therapy to an end.
As a registered member of the BACP and the UKCP, I abide by the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the UKCP's Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct.
My first session
Our first session will be an opportunity for you to tell me about the things you are struggling with and your hopes for therapy. You can also ask me any questions you may have about coming to therapy and how I work.
In addition, I will ask some questions about your current situation and your background in order to gain some wider context.
There will be no obligation for you to continue regular weekly therapy with me beyond the first session. Together we will decide what feels like the most appropriate next step for you.
If you do decide you wish to continue, we will agree a regular weekly appointment time.
I know that it can feeling daunting to make contact with a therapist for the first time. However I do encourage you to either send me a message or call for an initial exploratory chat on the phone, at which you can tell me a little about what is going on and ask me any questions.
