About me and my therapy practice
I balance my professionalism with a warm relational approach to therapy in a discreet and welcoming setting.
Practice description
I work predominantly 'in person' from my consultation room in the centre of Barnstaple, North Devon, from where I offer a range of therapeutic services in a professional and welcoming setting.
I have experience working with a wide range of common life events, but my enhanced trainings and qualifications permit me to specialise in working with more complex mental health presentations.
I can also offer online counselling, EMDR and Brainspotting therapy. During the Covid 19 pandemic, and in line with the prevailing guidance, I gained extensive experience working remotely using Zoom. Working online can feel different from being in the same room, but it can nevertheless be an extremely effective form of therapy.
The BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy) and the EMDR UK Association have offered guidance and recommendations about working online, which I take account of to ensure my practice remains highly professional.
My first session
Ahead of our first session, and in line with GDPR requirements, I shall send you my Privacy Notice. This explains how I shall handle your personal and sensitive data. I shall also provide a simple Therapy Agreement, which we can go through when we meet. If, after our first session you would like to continue, I would ask you to sign the Agreement.
Our first session will also provide the space for us to explore and reach a shared understanding of your expectations and hoped for outcomes from the therapy. I can explain and answer any questions you may have about specific approaches, such as EMDR, Brainspotting and TRE. Metaphorically, the first session is about us drawing up an initial roadmap for your therapy journey, with a broad sense of where we may visit and which modes of transport we may make use of to travel there.
