There is a Concessionary Rate available. I work primarily to find ways to ease or manage emotional suffering, finding a more meaningful way forward; values I strongly hold, and also that counselling should be available to many, and hence fee is kept low,  - in these tricky costs of living times.

About me and my therapy practice

Hi,- here you are, looking for the right counsellor. My name is Tony and a warm welcome. I know, from personal experience, that at times, we can need that extra assistance during challenging periods of our lives, and it can take courage and strength to reach out and seek it. You may be miserable, struggling emotionally and feeling "stuck" at present, - with work-related stress & difficulties, relationships with others, depression, anxiety, hurt, anger,  guilt, shame, jealousy, regrets, rejections, loss, trauma - a loss a sense of life direction; - various life's adversities we can all at times experience, and find ourselves. I am not a stranger at all to some of these struggles...

Counselling can offer a way to find greater freedom to move forward, with skills to manage difficult thoughts and feelings or problematic situations more effectively.

My core values are to provide a nonjudgmental, empathic relationship and to develop a trusting working bond, which is vital to enable you to feel at ease, comfortable, and understood.

I hold a Diploma in Psychological Counselling (Roehampton University), completed many British Psychological Society-approved training;- plus ACT training with Contextual Consulting & Dr Russ HARRIS. I have 28 years of experience in the Mental Health field, - working in fields such as deliberate self-harm teams, folks with personality difficulties, trauma, substance use issues, and experiencing a wide range of mental health, emotional or psychological challenges.

I work within the BACP ethical framework and guidelines.

Practice description

We will work together as a team - you and I, collaboratively, towards a greater understanding of the problematic issues you are experiencing,  finding a way forward towards your identified counselling goals. This could be within an agreed working contract. This can be brief,  and time-limited. Online connection via Zoom is available.

I draw upon evidence-based models: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and modern-unified focused Cognitive Behaviour Counselling. I work especially with painful feelings and emotions, not only alongside unhelpful thinking patterns.

Following assessment - and an ongoing understanding of how you are "stuck"- we look towards developing an action plan to meet your individual needs, which we work on and agree on together in session. This may also mean using skills or strategies, only if you have agreed to, in your time outside of sessions and to assess your progress. This will help reinforce the work we have practised in session and transfer these into your life outside.

Together the aim will be for you to feel less troubled or distressed and find a more helpful way forward. Learn more about what you value and the direction you need to go to find meaning and purpose. Become more skilled in handling painful thoughts and feelings more effectively. I also fully acknowledge the social and environmental settings where these can sometimes be set.

My first session

Following the initial phone connection, if you wish to proceed, our first session will last around 70 minutes. It will allow you to assess further whether you think and feel that we can work together and to understand how you are currently stuck, and what difficulties you are experiencing. From there, we will collaboratively develop a working plan. This can often be an ongoing process and can change over time.

It is very important to stress that, on occasions, the first session may itself be very helpful to you.  Followed by further sessions - on a one-by-one basis, depending on your preference.  Or set over an agreed longer time frame, setting reviews for progress.
