Practice description
The heart of my approach is the unique relationship between you and me. I believe that there is a power in two people meeting and working together out of which extraordinary growth can occur.
The foundation of my practice is the person-centred approach which simply means that the core of my job is to provide the best possible conditions to allow you to explore, grow and develop your own unique resolution to the challenges you are faced with. I offer a safe supportive space and work alongside you to empower you to build understanding of what is going on in the here-and-now and to develop skills to use in the future. As you increase your understanding of yourself this in turn enables you to move through what is happening today and focus on how you want to live in the future. In short, my experience is that for many people the process of counselling is transformative.
I recognise that everyone is different, and there is no “one size fits all” and so I offer a range of different tools that can be employed to support you immediately, and to use in the future.
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is an evidence-based cognitive behavioural (CBT) approach that targets two areas. The first is developing psychological skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings effectively in order that they have much less impact and influence over you (that is, mindfulness skills). The second is clarifying what is truly important and meaningful to you and using that knowledge to guide, inspire and motivate you to change your life for the better.
Hypnotherapy provides a profound, effective and evidence based set of techniques and is especially useful for anxiety and improving performance. In common with the rest of my approach hypnosis is always about empowering you and you remain in control at all times – it is a collaborative and often pleasantly liberating experience.
