About me and my therapy practice
I provide a professional, safe and non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I work as a integrative, humanistic counsellor - which means we work together, focusing on the issues that are unique to you, to achieve your personal goals, as set by you.
I am passionate and committed in supporting clients in exploring their issues to build healthier emotional lives that enable you to move forward making positive steps.
Counselling is a very personal and sometimes painful process; as such there may be times when you experience periods of feeling worse before you feel better. I will help you to feel safe and 'hold' your space so your in the best place to explore the painful issues, safely and securely.
During the counselling we will review often and consider your needs, this is a gift your giving yourself and my role is to help you find emotional balance.
The end result will enable you to hopefully move forwards resolving issues and improved emotional health.
Practice description
At present I am working remotely and have ensured that my counselling space is confidential, quiet, uninterrupted space, as if we were working together face to face.
Working remotely has many advantages for clients :-
Distance can make it easier to talk openly.
Online counselling provides more anonymity
Familiar surroundings - your in your own home, so can feel more safe and secure, making it potentially easier for you to open up about your issues.
If you have a disability or mental health issues or are on medication that makes it difficult for you to leave your home, online counselling can be a more accessible option.
If you live in a remote location or an area with long waiting lists.
My first session
Choosing to come for counselling can feel uncomfortable, and as such I always like to have an initial telephone conversation to help put you at ease.
Initially we will have a free telephone consultation and discuss your counselling needs and check if we both feel I am the best person to support you, dependent on your counselling needs.
We then move on to arrange a online Initial assessment, I will send you a counselling contract and information sheet so that you have a clear understanding of how the counselling process works. If your happy with and agree to the counselling contract, we will set a date for your initial assessment session.
The Initial assessment gives us the opportunity to talk in more depth about the counselling process and your counselling needs.
Sometimes the assessment process can take a few sessions, and within this time we will explore what you hope to get out of counselling, the type of counselling I provide and consider an estimate of how many sessions you may need and this is always up for change, as your counselling needs may change as you go through counselling. We will constantly review your counselling needs and you are always in control of when we end.
We will in the first session also take your contact details and discuss and agree confidentiality and boundaries.
Counselling is a joint collaboration as such it is important that you feel comfortable with the process and with the counselling relationship. So please let me know if there is anything your unsure of.
