About me and my therapy practice
I am an Integrative trained Counsellor/Psychotherapist and have worked for the last 8 years for a leading children's Mental Health Charity supporting Adults and Children with issues impacting on their mental health. I have worked in Private Practise for the past 5 years supporting clients with a variety of issues ranging from depression, anxiety, confidence and self-esteem, self-harm, bereavement, domestic abuse and relationship difficulties both within the family and work-place.
I offer both short-term counselling or long-term (psychotherapy) and am a recognised provider currently accepting referrals for a variety of Healthcare Providers, including Axa Health, Bupa, Vitality Health and Employee Assistance Programmes.
My Approach
I am Integrative trained, which means that I recognise all clients have different life experiences and that one approach does not fit all; I draw on different theoretical approaches which aids my understanding and enhances my practise. Above all I value the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I aim to provide a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental space for you to explore what is troubling you, enabling you to gain clarity and a different perspective. I also believe that in order to understand our difficulties today it can be helpful to explore our earliest childhood relationships.
Areas of Interest
Relationship & Family Issues; Separation & Divorce; Parenting & Child-Related Issues; Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control; Confidence & Self-Esteem; Depression; Anxiety; Bereavement & Loss; Childhood Abuse; Anxiety & Depression
Practice description
I am based in Twickenham, West London. My private practise takes place from a log cabin in my garden, separate from my home, in a quiet residential development which provides a quiet, private, reflective space. It is close to Whitton and Twickenham British Rail with fast links into London Waterloo or Windsor and easy access to Teddington, Kingston, Richmond and Hounslow. It is also close to the A316 with easy access to the M3 or London and many other good transport links. There is plenty of free, easily accessible parking.
I offer both short-term counselling and long-term psychotherapy which is very much dependent on your needs and will be discussed during the first assessment session.
I have a particular interest and experience in working relationally, supporting clients to identify unhealthy patterns of relating and coping mechanisms often formed in childhood, which may have contributed to low confidence and self-esteem, anxiety or depression or difficulties in current relationships.
Testimonial
"A really positive experience that has made a huge difference to my daily life. Melanie provided a comfortable, judgement free experience which allowed me to really explore my anxiety, discover the root cause and make positive changes". (James, 23)
My first session
I realise it can be really daunting choosing a Counsellor for the first-time and therefore offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation. Please feel free to give me a call where I will be happy to answer any queries you may have. If I am unable to take your call please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
I will then invite you in for an initial assessment session which will give you a further opportunity to ask any questions and get to know how we will work together. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling. We will review as we go along and this is very much directed by you and your needs.
