About me and my therapy practice
Michael Green Hon .D. Litt (City), MA, AdipPsy, UKCP Reg
I am motivated by a lifelong curiosity in people and their capacity to develop. I believe that the relationship between therapist and patient can be a vehicle for growth.
I have worked with addiction, relationship and sexual issues, depression/anxiety and loss, as well as dealing with anger and violence. I have an honorary PhD from City University London, an MA, a Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent's University and an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy
Together we can think in a different way about your past, present and future. I do not tell you what to do, be directive or give advice, but in the forming of the relationship we will find it helps you to make your own choices.
There is no particular point in life when people turn towards therapy, but it is often when confronted by some sense of not being able to move forward, or change. Significant events such as bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties, questioning who you are or feeling unable to get over past events, are common reasons for seeking a therapist. Depression and anxiety are often present and very hard to get over alone.
As well as face to face therapy, I am happy to work online using FaceTime or Zoom.
Practice description
I work in Mayfair, Central London (W1)
Choosing who to see if you decide you want therapy can be very difficult and is an entirely personal decision. There are many different types of therapy which can also be confusing.
I believe two central requirements should be in place when you begin therapy. One, that you feel the therapist can help you with your problem, and two, that you feel as comfortable as possible in the presence of the therapist, which will greatly help the difficult process of talking to someone new.
Please have a look at what I offer and contact me by telephone. I am happy to have a conversation on the phone, or to arrange a meeting.
Alternatively, e mail me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I treat each enquiry as totally confidential from the beginning at my dedicated consultation room to ensure complete privacy from an initial consultation and thereafter.
My first session
Each session lasts 50 minutes. In terms of how long you meet with a therapist this can vary a lot, and I can talk about it during the first meeting, which I call an assessment. During this session, I would ask you questions and get you to describe yourself so you and I get a sense of why you have come to seek psychotherapy. The session is also an opportunity for you to see whether you feel this might be the right place for you.
There is no right or wrong length for therapy.however, the therapy I practice involves thinking about often deep-seated ideas and sometimes traumas that are not easily talked about. Building up a sense of trust with a therapist takes time which is another reason for working for what may seem like quite a long time together.
