Hello, im Julie and im a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist and a qualified Clinical Supervisor. Ive been in both private practice and working for the NHS for over 13 years.
I work from my purpose built, warm, comfortable and private garden office or online.
It can be a very brave step to approach counselling either for the first time or perhaps to return again. I offer my clients a warm, non judgemental and professional space to think about the issues that bring us together in our work.
I work with a diverse range of individuals ages 16+ who are struggling to cope with issues that feel unable to be resolved on your own. Perhaps you are struggling with relationships or finding repeated patterns occurring in your life that you want to be able to understand more? You may of experienced past traumas that seem overwhelming and unresolvable, holding you back from living the life you really want? I provide the safe space to explore difficult subjects, giving you room to find a more authentic, peaceful way of being.
Practice description
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, this approach means i see each human being as their own expert, ultimately able to repair and heal. I think of my clients in a holistic sense, as a whole being, made up of intricate and sometimes conflicting parts. The Integrative part of my training means i am trained in a range of therapeutic models that i bring together to provide a more 'bespoke' approach to our work. I tend to work Psychodynamically with these models, using the past to understand the present, to move forward differently in the future.
The Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy part of my training is an Attachment based approach, looking at the vital early relationships with our caregivers and how they may have informed, either positively or negatively, our current connections in life.
I use all of my many trainings and continued professional development to work gently and respectfully with clients.
My first session
When you make contact with me, i will organise a 15/20 minute (free of charge) phone call to begin to understand a little more about why you want to come to therapy and answer any initial questions you may have. Its also gives you a moment to think about if feel i am suitable for you.
Our first in-person or online session will include me taking some important notes (all notes are kept in accordance to the GDPR rules) and giving us more space to think about what brings you into therapy and what you hope for from our work.
Future sessions do not normally include note taking.
