My practice location....

I have a small private practice located in the picturesque Village of Egerton, situated midway between Maidstone and Ashford. It is a discreet location, surrounded by open fields and has free parking and disabled access.

My therapy room is a large room with dual-aspect windows; it is situated within the Village sports pavilion. My counselling sessions are held outside the times of any scheduled sporting fixtures, therefore, it offers a quiet and confidential space.

Practice description

How I work....

When I work with you, where appropriate I use psycho-education and creative interventions; expanding the opportunity to raise awareness and gain personal insights; my aim is to meet you in an authentic way that encourages genuine dialogue which leads us to areas of difficulty. "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate". -  Carl Jung .

To support the work we do together in session I encourage home practice; which I believe enhances our weekly sessions, fosters client autonomy, and demonstrates an investment in yourself.

I work from an integrative perspective, which means drawing on a range of ideas from a number of theorists. I work with the individual, not a one-size-fits all approach, tailoring the therapeutic intervention to your presenting difficulties.

My work with children between the ages of 5-11 years requires me to use different skills according to the developmental age of the child. A child's emotional language is limited, it is through creative media, which includes; sand tray, figures, clay, puppets, games, painting/drawing that the child unconsciously explores their inner world through the safe-container of play.

Establishing trust and safety for the child is paramount in the therapeutic process, therefore, I meet with the child and their Parent/Caregivers for an initial session to establish contact, manage expectations and identify therapeutic goals.

My first session

At our initial in-person meeting I complete a written assessment,  taking a brief history of significant events and relationships; we also discuss confidentiality, GDPR, fees, cancellation policy, etc. I provide my clients with a written Counselling Agreement, for their information.

I use clinical scores which I believe helps us stay on track and highlights areas of progress and any stuck points.

Fees are payable electronically or by cash at the end of each session.
