About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred therapist and work with you according to the needs we identify. I have also trained in CBT and may use some strategies usually associated with CBT if that is helpful.
For those who are new to therapy I will take time to explain new ideas and ways of working. This is a gentle approach to therapy and clients are not asked to explore areas where they are really not comfortable.
Good, effective therapy does require a commitment to the process from the therapist and the client. Working face to face is very effective and can add dimensions to the experience. Sessions normally last one hour but times vary with individual needs.
I also work online should you prefer the additional privacy that provides. This also means a greater number of hours are available in the day to suit your needs. We could for instance meet online in an evening after normal working hours or at some point over the course of a weekend or holiday.

My first degree is in Language and Philosophy. I qualified as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist in Scotland and then completed a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy at the University of Strathclyde. I have a wide variety of professional qualification and worked as a headteacher for over 25 years.
I have been a therapist for over 10 years working with a broad spectrum of clients. I mainly work with adults and young adults.
Practice description
Expect me to be listening. The process should allow you to hear yourself and should allow me to hear you.
I will explain, where I can, what process is and how you might access your own process to move and change the things you want to change.
My first session
Within your first session we will identify where possible what we might explore to meet your needs. You will not be tied in to any number of sessions as this will depend on your requirements.
Confidentiality and privacy are paramount for therapy and we will discuss your needs at our first meeting and in the arrangements we make for our first session.
I would not acknowledge you if we were to cross paths somewhere on the island unless you chose to make contact with me.
Being clear about how we work is made clear in a simple written agreement. This provides clarity and helps make clear our boundaries.
