Face to face on a Tuesday to Friday between 9.30 and 4.00 pm.

About me and my therapy practice

When working with couples, the therapy model I use is EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) which is the therapy founded by Sue Johnson and is based on Attachment Theory. I am a member of ICEEFT & BEFT.  As each session is a unique co-creation; a session of dialogue, creative work or drama; dependent individual needs the therapeutic model may change.

Each session is considered to be a brand new space where clients feel safe to examine their issues and can move forward towards their defined, therapeutic goals.

Following assessment of the presenting issues, there are a range of therapeutic models at my fingertips including Person Centred counselling, Transactional Analysis and Coaching (plus other models). To most efficiently facilitate client therapeutic goals, I work creatively, drawing on which ever model appears to fit the person - including the use of art, stones, shells, photographs, drama, movement and storytelling. Empathy, Congruence and Unconditional Positive Regard - the Core Conditions (Rogers. 1957) underpin all my therapeutic encounters.

At home, I am primary carer for my profoundly disabled ex-partner and mother to a large family. In my career, I have occupied the roles of trainer and lecturer in basic skills (Maths, English, IT and Jobsearch); whilst being a partner in the family furniture business. In addition, for many years, I volunteered for the St Vincent de Paul Society and Marriage Care.

My life experience has equipped me to deal with many problems which include, business, ageing and the charity sector.

Practice description

Each session is a brand new co-creation, where you or you and your partner are in a safe, therapeutic space to explore your life issues.

My first session

I offer a free initial 25 minute meeting by Zoom or telephone for you to decide if I am the therapist to accompany you on your journey. Should you then decide to continue, we will book our first therapy session.

Frequently, dependent upon the level of distress, the first session may consist of a tide of narrative as client/s begin to open up about the pressing issues in their lives; whilst I contain their interaction, listen, mirror back / check my understanding where possible and endeavour to identify their communication cycle. 

Ideally, the first formal session would consist of discussing counselling boundaries, identifying therapeutic goals and completing a standard 'about you' questionnaire plus a copy of my counselling/life coaching contract.
