I offer in-person sessions in the Shoreditch/Spitalfields area in London E1. Two weekday evening spaces and a Saturday late morning space for weekly therapy are opening up from January 2025 onwards. I am away over the holiday period but will check emails occasionally and get back to you to arrange an initial phone call.
I work with individual adults (18+) only. I have extensive experience in working with the 25-35 age group and helping you navigate the challenges of this life stage.
About me and my therapy practice
Are you feeling lost, overwhelmed or anxious? Perhaps you've had a feeling that things are not OK for a while but have felt you have to manage on your own?
Counselling and therapy can be helpful in tough times and when you feel stuck, and talking to a trained therapist can in itself bring relief – it will give you the opportunity to share all your thoughts and feelings with someone outside of your daily life and gain a new perspective on your problems.
Together we will explore how your life experiences influence your current thoughts, feelings, patterns of behaviour and relationships and we'll work to make sense of these. We might talk about significant relationships (past and present), memories, dreams, and things that are important to you in life. This type of therapy can help you gain new insight, clarity and ways to deal with difficult situations more effectively as it addresses the root causes of the problems you are experiencing. As we might need to dig a little deeper, it isn't a quick fix, but it can be a real investment in yourself and your future.
The aim of psychodynamic counselling is to also explore aspects of yourself you are less conscious of – helping you to uncover and understand more deep-rooted feelings and patterns of thinking in order to resolve them and make lasting changes.
Your sessions are a space for you to talk about anything that is important to you – including thoughts and feelings you may feel you can’t express anywhere else for fear of being judged or misunderstood. While starting with a new therapist can feel daunting, therapy can also quickly become a safe haven in your week and a place where you feel validated and supported.
People seek therapy for many reasons and you don't have to be at your lowest point or to have a specific reason to come to therapy.
I welcome clients of different neurotypes, cultural backgrounds and sexualities and have extensive experience in these areas.
Practice description
I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling & Therapy from the Manor House Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy and a Certificate in Counselling Skills from WPF Therapy. I have also completed a Certificate in Online & Telephone Counselling. Prior to my training I gained a MA in Gender & Culture (Sociology).
Alongside my private practice work, I have held a number of honorary positions in the charity sector, most recently as an honorary psychotherapist at Lifeworks at St Mungo's; a therapy service for people affected by homelessness and often with complex presentations. I have also worked at a bereavement counselling service and a women's health centre, and an NHS funded short term therapy service. Before I trained as a therapist, I worked for 10 years as a manager at a mental health charity supporting people who live with severe and enduring mental health issues.
I mainly work with clients medium to long term (6 months and longer) which gives us the time to work on more longstanding or deep rooted issues, or to offer you ongoing support for your mental health. People also find counselling helpful for working through a specific event or situation or having a space outside of your daily life to reflect on important decisions or life transitions.
Sessions take place weekly, on the same day/at the same time. I do not offer fortnightly or ad-hoc sessions.
I work mainly face-to-face, but also remotely online and on the phone. My practices in Shoreditch have great transport links: Shoreditch High Street station is a few minutes away and Liverpool Street, Whitechapel and Aldgate East stations also within a 10-15 minute walk, and there are various bus routes nearby.
I also offer therapy in my native language Finnish although I mainly work in English.
I work with adults and young adults (18+).
My usual fees are in the range of £70-80 per session. Subject to availability, some lower fee places are available for students and those on a lower income.
My first session
Our first session will be a chance for me to get to know more about you and what has brought you to therapy at this time, and an opportunity for you to experience how I work, so that we can decide if we want to continue working together. The fee for the initial consultation is £70.
I understand that taking the first step and approaching a counsellor can feel daunting, especially if you are struggling with something and feel lost or vulnerable. When you contact me, I aim to respond within one working day and will be happy to discuss any of your concerns about starting counselling or therapy.
