About me and my therapy practice

I am a highly trained and experienced counsellor, psychotherapist and clinical counselling supervisor; with a background in education. I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology (MSc) and I am a Registered and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I am an Accredited and Approved Counselling Supervisor (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society: NCPS). I have counselled people with mental health problems for various mental health charities, agencies and organisations, I have previously worked in the NHS as a psychology practitioner, and now work in private practice supporting people with their personal problems and concerns. I am trained in Relationship and Couple Therapy (COSRT); I understand how difficult it is sometimes to come to an agreement over sensitive and important issues; I support couples in conflict and work collaboratively to gain an understanding of the differences and difficulties in the relationship. I also aim to have an appreciation of the deeper issues which may underlie the problems, along with gaining a greater awareness of practical interventions which can facilitate and help break any negative patterns of interaction.

My private practice provides a safe and confidential space where you are able to discuss your concerns in a calm and supportive environment. Sometimes we need the help of a therapist to provide a clear focus on what is important in our lives. Often our thoughts, feelings and emotional awareness becomes confused and we are unclear on the options we have, or the choices we need to make. Talking and exploring your concerns or issues can give you a renewed perspective, and provide a clear understanding to approach any  difficulties or more complex issues involved.

Practice description

I offer counselling sessions for individual adults, couples, partnerships, family member groups and young people.

I usually hold counselling sessions at my private practice in my home office (face-to-face), online via a Microsoft Teams video link. This is discussed in the initial therapy assessment and can vary depending on the case and support required.

Sometimes just a single session, or perhaps a few sessions help the process of regaining control of ourselves and our situation. I am happy to offer Brief, or Time-Limited Therapy, if this is something you feel you would benefit from depending on your situation.

My first session

During the first session we would discuss any questions you may have about the Therapy Agreement or contract, exchange contact details, confirm your identity and add relevant personal details. You will be asked to provide this necessary information in advance of therapy taking place. It is important that you provide your relevant medical history, and notify me of any medications that you are currently prescribed; and a named person who can be contacted in case of any emergency.

All sessions are arranged and paid for in advance by bank transfer or cash payment. I usually email an Invoice and receipts if required. Any additional information is discussed before the start of the counselling sessions. The fee covers the therapist's engagement time in managing the initial agreement and contracting process, and in confirmation of appointment times; whilst ensuring you are given the relevant information to allow you to choose the right therapist to work with. In the first exchanges with the therapist, you can ask any questions and raise any point you may have about entering counselling therapy.

Sometimes if attending relationship or couple therapy you will be asked to complete an assessment form.
