About me and my therapy practice
I offer Person Centred Counselling integrated with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy on a one to one basis. There are times in most of our lives when we experience distressing and tragic events, which result in feelings of helplessness with no end solution in sight. It is times like this we need support, to be able to share these feelings and not feel judged. Person Centred Counselling will allow you to explore any difficulties you may be experiencing in your life at your own pace. It is a humanistic approach which looks at how we perceive ourselves and reflects on our inner values and self-worth. You may not even be aware of some of these issues, but this process of exploration will allow you time to figure it out. It is very important to feel comfortable and safe with the counsellor you choose, this will help you build trust and allow a professional counselling relationship to be formed. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) may be introduced into your counselling sessions. This can help you manage problems you are aware of in a more structured way, setting goals and timescales. This is based around the concept that your thoughts, feelings and actions are interconnected, so any negative thoughts can lead to negative feelings and actions. It is a more structured approach and focuses on specific issues and looking at what can be done differently and what effects this will have on you. It encourages you to examine your actions, by changing the way we think so we can create more positive behaviours. I recently qualified as mindfulness teacher, Mindfulness is a way of being that allows us to be fully present in the moment and in this place we are fully in control, we can learn a lot about ourselves through practicing different methods of breathing, meditation and many other ways to create a sense of calm in our minds and life.
Practice description
I am a qualified, BACP Registered and experienced therapist offering counselling in the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire area face to face and online counselling. Rates start at £40 for online and £45 for face to face. I decided to become a counsellor as I have a passion for listening and feel there is no greater reward than helping others to turn their lives around and being able to live life to the full. With an Irish background I consider myself to be open and friendly, approachable and easy to talk to and have built many professional counselling relationships, helping people of all ages, work through issues they are facing in their lives.
I work out of my home office, separate in a professional premise which offers a very comfortable and private setting, in a safe and quiet space. Safe and secure parking is available on the premises. As well as face to face I also offer counselling Online via Skype, Zoom or WhatsApp or on the telephone.
My first session
Making the decision to contact a counsellor can be one a difficult part of this process. The idea of sharing your most personal feelings with a stranger can seem too hard to comprehend. Getting past this first hurdle can be one one of the biggest challenges. Most clients find once they begin to talk and open up they begin to feel a weight has been lifted. On the first session we will firstly talk about the ethical guidelines, including confidentiality and terms. I offer a person centred approach offering the opportunity to explore what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together to get meet your needs. If we agree at the end of the session we would like to work together we will agree a plan of appointment date/times moving forward. The journey will begin and I will work with you to help you feel safe and understood without judgement. I feel we all need a bit of support and guidance at times to help us find a way back to being the person we want to be.What I can help with
