About me and my therapy practice

Hello and a warm welcome.

I am an Integrative Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist with over 15 years experience of working in a variety of educational and therapeutic settings.

My approach is child centred, using a blend of talking therapy, the creative arts and play. This enables the child or young person to fully express their thoughts and feelings which may be related to a current issue or sometimes a past trauma. Working at their pace, I help them to explore their concerns and make sense of overwhelming or confusing feelings.

Consistent weekly sessions, in a safe, confidential and child friendly space, creates a sense of continuity and trust. As an integrative practitioner, I draw upon different psychological theories to enable me to more fully understand the child or young person's presenting issues.

Qualifications

Masters Degree in Integrative Child Psychotherapy

Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative & Transpersonal Supervision

Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate

I am fully DBS checked, have an up to date Advanced Safeguarding Certificate and Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Practice description

My private practice is located in the village of Temple Sowerby, which is mid way between Appleby and Penrith (Approx 10-15 mins drive from either town).

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place weekly at the same time.

I also offer consultations for parents and carers, to help with understanding and managing a child's emotions and behaviour. These reflective parenting sessions can enable families to strengthen their relationships and communicate more effectively.

My first session

I offer an initial 20 minute free telephone consultation where we can discuss current issues and explore the next steps.

My first session is an assessment where the child and/or parents will describe their concerns in more depth. I may ask about the child's early history, including the pregnancy, birth, developmental milestones, significant events or trauma. This information will be important in helping to build a holistic picture of the child or young person.
