About me and my therapy practice
My name is Lorraine Blanking (registered MBACP). I am a degree qualified counsellor and clinical supervisor with 16 years of experience. I practice in Colchester (Lifeforce centre) and Frinton On Sea, as well as offering virtual and telephone consultations.
I hold personal indemnity insurance and have enhanced DBS clearance as well as being registered with the ICO (information commissioners office for data protection).
I have worked in various settings, including end of life wards, residential mental health units, veterans support, bereavement services, GP practice and rape and abuse services.
I have additional experience in supporting clients who have experienced domestic abuse/child abuse and neglect resulting in post trauma symptoms (cPTSD and PTSD), neurodivergence and mental ill health and diagnosis.
I am a warm, empathetic therapist and understand how difficult it can be to reach out for counselling, but will do my best to provide an atmosphere of trust, understanding be non judgemental.
Practice description
I am trained in humanistic theory, but integrate other theories into my work so that your sessions are tailored to your needs instead of generic, and practice from a trauma informed perspective.
If appropriate, I may offer you handouts pertinent to the session content, and may look at completing a questionnaire together if you present with (undiagnosed) symptoms associated with depression and anxiety.
I offer sessions on a weekly basis, but will consider fortnightly sessions should this be appropriate for you.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute telephone call so that we can get to know one another, giving you the space to talk to me about what you are looking for from counselling and to ask questions.
We will talk about boundaries, and the remits of confidentiality.
If we agree that we can work together we will then discuss your session time, date and fee. I will then send you a counselling agreement via email for you to read, sign and return.
