About me and my therapy practice
Asking for help is hard, and it is important to risk meeting as a first step without feeling committed.
When you come to me in trouble I aim to provide a safe and understanding relationship in which you can explore your concerns without feeling judged. Together we then plan a way forward using Counselling or EMDR for the most effective way to achieve the wished-for outcome. Deep Brain Reorientation is another way of helping to change how we feel and think about the past and enable us to face the future less burdened. I can explain more when we meet.
Troubles come in many forms and everyone has an individual response, whatever your background or culture. I find ways to respond to difference with respect and consideration.
I look to match my approach to your style and preferred way of working. Sometimes being listened to at a deep level is what you need most and that is always a good place to start. When trust has been damaged it can take a while to feel safe, so it is important to give yourself time.
As we build a relationship I may help you find resources within yourself to build confidence and relieve your distress, repair damage and tackle difficulties with more resources.
Relational issues can be explored and addressed perhaps through psycho-education or through attachment repair with EMDR.
Traumas helpin the body and mind can be released and troubling memories neutralised. Anxiety and depression can be diminished and self esteem increased. I may ask you to set yourself an achievable challenge or task you to practice new behaviour between sessions.
Life is full of stress and grief and you don't have to face it alone. Together we can work towards a more rewarding way of living so that you ...

Practice description
Using phone or internet I can work with people from all over the country and abroad. My clients are mainly adult, individuals or couples but I also work with adolecents and occassionally with children.
My strengths are in relationship and trauma work but after working for over 20 years in Primary Care for the NHS, supervising a team and trainees as well as holding a caseload, I have aquired wide experience of working with different presentations and problems. I integrate different ways of working but my basic philosphy is optimistic and I believe that people can change and grow and find their way forward given support and encouragment at times of stress and change.
My first session
I usually speak to new clients on phone and we agree the area of work to be addressed. It provides you with an opportunity to ask questions and me with a chance to consider if I think I can help you.
The first session is an opportunity to identify what has brought you to the point of requesting help, for us to get a sense of one another and to begin to establisha sense of safety in which you can explore difficult issues.
