About me and my therapy practice

I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with more than 25 years clinical experience. I have worked in the NHS and in student counselling services at both City University and Goldsmiths College.  I’ve run a private practice since 1999 and work from both Blackheath, SE3 and Borough High Street, London, SE1.

I originally trained in Dance and Theatre and had a long career in the Arts. After a period of working as a volunteer counsellor at Child-line I decided to train on as a therapist. I completed a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy at Regent’s College in 1998 and an MA in Psychotherapy and Society, at Goldsmiths in 2001.

In 2005 I enrolled on the Introductory Course at the Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research (CFAR). Following that I continued my psychoanalytic training there. I follow the Lacanian discipline and work with individual clients and couples across a wide range of areas including depression, loss, bereavement, suicidal thoughts, sexual, emotional or physical abuse, low self-esteem, anxiety, difficulty in relationships, identity problems and trauma.

Practice description

I believe that the quality of the relationship is the most important factor of this work. Very often, maybe most often, the suffering that leads us to seek therapy has been packed away for so long that we don't necessarily have access to it. Having somebody really listen can put us in touch with patterns laid down in our early lives that lead us to repeat painful situations. Of course, we don't have to be very old to have acquired these patterns, but at any age, being able to remember is the road to freedom.

My first session

I don't charge for the initial session.  This is an opportunity for us to get to know a little bit about one other and discuss what brings you to therapy.  As part of the first session we would also discuss practical elements including session times and fees.
