About me and my therapy practice
Are you seeking a counsellor who can help you with bereavement or loss?
Or perhaps a health problem is impacting on your life or the life of someone meaningful for you?
Are you struggling to come to terms with a difficult diagnosis, or coping with treatment?
Or maybe you're a trainee therapist who is affected by any of these issues?
I can help by providing time and space for you to talk things through without pressure and to explore the issues that are troubling you.
I am a qualified counsellor with over 20 years experience- mainly working within a hospice and the community where I supported patients and their carers/ families; and for a national bereavement organisation where I supported those bereaved by suicide and unexpected death.
I qualified from Birmingham University in 2003 and have been accredited with BACP since 2013.
My background is as a registered nurse, and of working within the diversity of Birmingham.
I am empathic, calm and warm and build strong therapeutic relationships with my clients.
Practice description
I work in a way that draws from counselling theory and from my experience to provide therapy that best meets your individual needs. I trained in a mainly person-centred way, placing our relationship firmly at centre and working at your pace. I also use solution-focused therapy; this focuses on building on from what works for you, in order to help you achieve your goals.
Sessions are online, using 'Zoom' (an online video) or by phone if you prefer. I work from the privacy and peace of a room in my courtyard garden.
Sessions are usually for 60 minutes, weekly or fortnightly; we will decide the number of sessions together. It can be helpful for some clients who are bereaved to move to less frequent sessions until our planned ending.
It can also be helpful for busy carers and for clients who are unwell to have a mix of shorter 30 minute if this is beneficial; we can discuss this within your counselling to best ensure that the therapy meets your needs.
My first session
I offer sessions online (video link) and by phone.
After receiving your enquiry we can arrange a free initial appointment of up to 30 minutes to see if we are a good 'fit' for each other and for me to answer any questions you may have.
I will ask you some questions to try to ensure that online counselling is right for you and that I am qualified to help you.
I will also explain about the Contract of How We Will Work Together and my Privacy Agreement.
If I am not right for you, I will try to signpost you to another counsellor or service.
