About me and my therapy practice

Thinking about counselling?

Addiction can come to dominate your thinking and behaviour.

If you’re experiencing issues related to a form of addiction (drugs, alcohol, sex etc) I can assist you in identifying the place that addiction takes in your life, help you to explore its origins and other options for its management.

Bereavement/loss can have serious impacts on your life.

If you have experienced a bereavement or other form of loss (redundancy, relationship ending, home/house) I can help you to understand and manage the feelings of grief that arise.

Issues arising in your Employment can impact your overall health and welfare.

If you're having difficulties with employment aspects of your life I can help you to explore their origins and impact, and to explore what changes you may be able to make.

Anxiety and depression can arise from a wide variety of sources or situations.

Counselling can offer a safe space in which to unpack and explore your feelings.

Kink aware

If you identify as being part of the kink or BDSM community I offer kink friendly, empathic, non-judgemental counselling.

What to expect.

On initial contact I will ask you some general questions to establish that I can, in principle, be of help and we can book an appointment.

At the same time, you can ask questions about what to expect from the counselling process.

Counselling typically consists of weekly sessions, but other appropriate arrangements can be negotiated.

I charge £60/session, which typically lasts 50 minutes.

Practice description

My practice is based in Coventry but I offer online sessions via WhatsApp as the need dictates.

Counselling becomes effective as, in a confidential space, I listen to you in a non-judgemental way whereby you can feel safe to explore the issues you've brought. From that basis we can work towards you resolving or reconciling those issues.

Professional registration

As a Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP No 500790) I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and hold professional liability insurance.

I source and receive continuing professional development (CPD) training.

I work in conjunction with a Clinical Supervisor, a requirement of ethical working. The Supervisor monitors my work effectiveness.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in the Theory & Practice of Counselling (University of Warwick).

Diploma in Interpersonal and Counselling Skills (University of Warwick)

Diploma in Coaching (University of Warwick)

I have been in counselling/coaching practice since 1992 working short-term, or longer-term, with a wide range of adult clients (18+).

My first session

After you make contact (nb@coun-g.co.uk or 07576 332 377) I would value 10 mins of your time during which we would identify the issues that have brought you to consider counselling.

Counselling typically consists of weekly sessions of up to 50 minutes each.

About me and my therapy practice

Supervision focuses on the Counsellor’s work with their clients,  to maintain and enhance the therapeutic relationship, and confirm ethical practice.

I trained as an integrative therapist and reflect that in my supervision work.

I am kink aware.

Alternative strategies can be discussed and modelled during the session as required.

Practice description

If you are interested in receiving Supervision from someone who has worked with Supervisees for over 20 years please contact me.

I would expect the hours we work together to reflect the BACP requirements and any training regime requirements.

My first session

In a first session it would be crucial for us to establish a working alliance.

I would need to establish your counselling qualifications and professional body status for the records.

We would identify your area of counselling work and determine that my expertise would meet your needs.
