About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I am a BACP registered and accredited counsellor, and a UKCP registered humanistic integrative psychotherapist, with over 14 years of experience in working with clients.
I seek to provide a safe space for clients, so that they feel more comfortable to talk about their past experiences and current difficulties. I listen compassionately to gain understanding from clients about what it is like for them to live their lives. This helps us to decide together ways of working to resolve problems; heal from difficult experiences, and make desired changes.
Having undertaken a range of trainings, I am able to combine different approaches and adapt the way that I work to suit individuals. Most of the therapy that I offer involves the integration of Transactional Analysis and EMDR. I have completed five years of training in Transactional Analysis, and am qualified to use EMDR as part of my practice.
I have previously provided therapy for Cruse Bereavement Care, and have counselled survivors of historical sexual abuse and rape at Leicester Rape Crisis Centre. Being qualified to work with children and young people as well as adults, I have also delivered counselling in schools, both when working for Relate and in private practice.
I now work solely in private practice. A larger part of my work involves therapy with individuals who have experienced recent or historic trauma. Many of us have experienced a level of trauma in our lives. Sometimes, people are able to identify experiences that continue to affect them in the present. Therapy may also help if you are unable to pinpoint any particular experiences that are causing difficulty in the here-and-now.
At some point in their lives, most people go through difficult times, where they feel overwhelmed and experience feelings of anxiety and/or low mood. At times like these, we may benefit from receiving therapy. Counselling and psychotherapy can offer helpful ways to move forward with our lives and become more fully ourselves.
Practice description
In-person sessions take place in a lovely building along New Walk.
The costs of sessions vary according to length and type of session. Therapy for individual clients is currently £50 per hour.
Some EMDR sessions and couple sessions are 90 minutes long and are therefore charged at a higher cost of £65 per session.
Concessions are available for those on lower incomes and counselling trainees.
My first session
The purpose of the first session is for us to decide whether working together is a good step at this time. During the first session, I will talk with you about how I work, and also ask you questions about yourself and what has brought you to therapy at this time. I am very open to answering any questions that will help you to decide whether you would like to proceed with therapy.
The initial session is offered free of charge.
