About me and my therapy practice
There are times when we all need extra support to cope with life’s inevitable challenges which can present themselves in many different ways. My role is to offer you a caring, compassionate and confidential space in which to support you in finding your own way forward in coping with these challenges and difficulties, and to help you make sense of any thoughts or feelings that you wish to share, or which may emerge during the counselling process.
Counselling is different to confiding in family or friends as it offers a private space to focus on whatever you wish to speak about, without the worry of someone else's feelings or judgements.
I work in an integrative way, which means that my practice is influenced by the traditions of humanistic, psychodynamic and existential therapies as well as CBT and DBT; this enables me to tailor my approach to suit your individual needs, whilst respecting your own pace and depth of the counselling process. However, the core aspect of all of my work is to build a trusting relationship, and to offer a confidential, compassionate and supportive space to help you begin to explore and make sense of whatever is on your mind.
Practice description
Through working in a variety of roles within specialist and mainstream schools for ten years, I was fortunate enough to be a part of multi-disciplinary teams, and felt hugely inspired and influenced by a range of therapists whom I worked alongside. After taking some time out to travel, and through having my own therapeutic experiences, I decided to embark on a journey to become a counsellor & psychotherapist. I completed a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, and since then have undertaken additional training in areas including School & Adolescent Counselling, Working with Neurodiversity in Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Online & Telephone Counselling.
I have worked as a counsellor for young people and adults in a range of settings including mental health charities, carers’ organisations, health centres, schools and colleges. I moved from London in 2018 and have continued counselling young people and adults, setting up private practice to offer psychotherapy and counselling in Bradford on Avon, Bath, Trowbridge, Chippenham, Bristol, Frome and the surrounding areas. I am also able to connect with people from further afield through the use of telephone or online methods.
I am committed to my role as a counsellor and to developing my therapeutic practice, so I regularly participate in additional training in areas including anxiety, depression, anger, stress, neurodiversity, trauma, bereavement, self esteem, mindfulness & self soothing strategies, attachment styles, personality disorders, self harm and eating disorders. I also place great value on learning from other professionals so I continue to engage in regular professional development workshops and training.
My first session
If you decide to get in contact, then the first step would be for us to arrange an initial counselling session, which could take place over the telephone, online or face to face. This initial session is an opportunity to get a feel for the process and to decide if you would like to continue. There is no pressure to commit to continuing as the most important thing is that you find a counsellor who is right for you, and who you feel able to trust and connect with.
If you did choose to continue, we would then arrange a regular time to meet each week and each session would last for up to 1 hour. The counselling process is unique to each individual and can be short or long term, but is reviewed during our work together.
To arrange an initial appointment, or if you would like to have a brief chat on the phone first, then please do get in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you.
