About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm a qualified and B.A.C.P Registered & Accredited Counsellor and C.B.T. (cognitive behavioural therapy) practitioner. My other professional qualifications include nursing and teaching.
I've provided counselling within the voluntary sector, rehab settings, clients homes, primary care and in a specialised sexual violence service. I offer therapy face to face in Chester-Le-Street, or via telephone or video link; in some circumstances I may visit your home.
At my core I'm a Person-centred therapist - this means I've a humanistic approach that focuses on the way clients see themselves rather than how I interpret their ideas or their unconscious thoughts.
During therapy I work to understand you from your perspective. I always value you and am open and genuine. No one knows you as well as you, I respect that. I'm not a nodding dog type counsellor, I'll work with you to help you understand yourself and support you to make changes you wish for.
My aim is to help you develop your self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence. To overcome the obstacles in life causing you distress. Helping you access your own resources empowers you to find the way forward which is right for you, an individual, that's important as what's right for one isn't necessarily right for another.
I've been privileged to support clients as they strive to understand themselves, their situation, addressing and overcoming a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, stress, relationship issues, identity issues, physical health issues, sexual issues, addictions, compulsions and unexpected life changes.
This is the basis of my work, I can explain more in the free 20 minute telephone chat I offer each client.
Questions? Please fee free to visit my website at www.autonomycounselling.org.uk or text, call me on 07496488865 or email me at info@autonomycounselling.org.uk I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
Our first session will always be an assessment session. This is the opportunity for me to gain a case history from you so that I can then offer you the most appropriate approach for your needs but importantly it also gives you the chance to get to know me, ask any questions you have and ensure that you feel comfortable to work with me.

I offer supervision virtually via telephone or video link
About me and my therapy practice
Hello I'm Angela at Autonomy Counselling. I am fully qualified supervisor and a B.A.C.P. (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) accredited counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist. Along with this I am also an anger management consultant and a specialist sexual abuse counsellor. In the past I've also worked in GP surgeries, Rehab establishment, clients own homes and the voluntary sector. My other professional qualifications include nursing and teaching.
I am experienced in providing both group and individual supervision. I require my supervisee's to be a member of a professional body and to fulfil the requirements of the B.A.C.P. regarding their supervision.
I believe supervision is, as Schuck & Wood (2011) state:
"A collaborative process in which the supervisor works with the supervisee to explore their work reflectively. The role of the supervisor is often viewed as a mix of educative, mentoring, holding the ethical position and ensuring the safety of the supervisee and the supervisee's client. Fundamental to the relationship is a good rapport and a working alliance."
(Schuck,C., Wood,J. (2011) Inspiring Creative Supervision. London. Jessical Kingsley Publishers.)
I offer supervision to student counsellors as well as newly qualified and experienced practitioners.
I can offer supervision within Chester-le-Street, Sunderland or in some cases Washington or your own home.
Supervision sessions are for one and half hours and prices are below.
If you would like to discuss embarking on a supervisory relationship with me please feel free to give me a ring so we can make an appointment for an informal chat.
