About me and my therapy practice
Having worked as a Senior Specialist Therapist and Clinical Supervisor within the NHS, I have extensive experience working with varying degrees of emotional complexities, this has given me an in-depth knowledge of mental health, diagnosis and various treatments.
I am an integrative therapist which means I use a variety of techniques to best suit you the client. Often people come to therapy to explore the self-destructive patterns in their lives or relationships. There are times for all of us, when we feel a bit lost, uncertain or stuck. Managing emotions, anxieties and sudden life changing events can be extremely difficult- feeling alone, isolated or rejected intensifies the hurt with friends and family, often further complicating the situation.
Therapy provides an opportunity to explore and understand what is going on, so that one can move forward. Sometimes, this can be about making changes in our ways of thinking, feeling and behaving, at other times, this is about coming to an acceptance of things we can't change. The opportunity to talk to someone in a safe, non judgment environment can be incredibly empowering, gaining, greater self awareness and understanding. Therapy encourages a different kind of relationship, one in which you can feel accepted and supported, so you can be honest about yourself and your feelings.
Practice description
I am what is considered a relational therapist, which in a nutshell means, I very much use myself in the context of therapy to connect with you the client, to work through psychological and behavioral issues. I use the connection we make to help facilitate awarness, growth and positive change.
Extensive training allows me to work and support those who's lives have been affected by sex addiction. I can work with the addict, partner or both in a couples setting. I am a member of (ATSAC), the Association of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity and am a registered therapist with the organisation (Stop So) the Specialist Treatment Organisation for the prevention of Sexual Offending. I am a Kink-Aware therapist-meaning I have an understanding of Kink, fetish and BDSM as normal healthy parts of many relationships. I warmly work with those who work in the sex industry.
I have a vast experience of working with sexual trauma and understand how the origins of addiction/ distructive behaviours can often be attributed to early traumatic life events.
