About me and my therapy practice
I’m a mature and experienced trauma-informed therapist and qualified counselling supervisor. I have knowledge and experience of various types of therapy and work in an integrative way, which enables me to tailor your therapy to suit you. At the heart of all my work is a person-centred ethos which means that my priority is to build a trusting, open and honest relationship which will enable you to feel truly heard and understood. This in itself can bring enormous comfort and relief and help you develop a better understanding of yourself; find choices; build belief in yourself and ultimately to enrich your relationships and enhance your life.Finding a therapist and starting therapy can be a daunting task. I can offer you a safe space and a nurturing, non-judgemental environment to help you unravel your problems.I believe a big heart, a keen brain and a ready humour are the qualities which make a strong therapist and these are qualities I seek to offer to my clients and my supervisees.I’ve had a rich and varied life which brings a unique diversity of experiences to my work as a therapist. I have first-hand knowledge of a high-pressure work environment, having been a director of a large company. I have since raised two children and experienced the challenges of maintaining a marriage and family and being a full-time carer at home.My practice is in a beautiful, tranquil and private environment in the Cheshire countryside but only 5 minutes from Manchester Airport. What I can help with

About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified clinical supervisor trained in the "Seven Eyed Model" of supervision to work with both qualified and trainee counsellors, psychotherapists and other helping professionals. This model fits very comfortably with my person-centred philosophy as a counsellor (and a human being) in that it has a humanistic foundation and is not over-prescriptive, encouraging independent thought and attending to a very deep, felt sense of what is right and wrong. As a therapist and a supervisor, I believe, the more of myself I can bring to the work, the more valuable that work will be. I see openness and sincerity as being key to achieving this. I am also keen to inject a sense of fun into the work. At times it will be inappropriate or impossible but, if you look hard enough, there’s usually some humour to be found somewhere! Rather than directing and confronting, I believe in guiding by imparting knowledge and raising awareness in a spirit of collaboration, .Hawkins and Shohet's description of supervision most resonates with me : “Philosophically and practically, humanistic-integrative supervision privileges therapist autonomy. It recognises this value as the cornerstone in facilitating the growth of a reflective, competent, ethical practitioner…”
Practice description
I am a trauma-informed therapist, having been part of the counselling team at Manchester Rape Crisis for many years; in addition to my private practice. Originally trained in the Person Centred Approach, I have increasingly incorporated Attachment Theory and TA into my work. I am also interested in emerging neuroscientific findings - particularly relating to how therapy works.
Most of my own practice is medium-to-long term but I have plenty of experience supervising very short-term work.
My priority is to help my supervisees to feel safe in their work - to offer comfort and solace, when necessary - as well as intellectual stimulation!
