About me and my therapy practice
I am a psychotherapist and CBT practitioner and the therapies I use are CBT, person-centred, integrative, psycho-dynamic, psycho-analytical, and solution-focused.
I have been a graduate member of the British Psychological Society since 2003, as well as a registered member of the BACP for over ten years and have had my own private practice for twelve years
I have worked for various charities in the Yorkshire area, namely Mosaic 11 in Bradford, The Turning Point in Brighouse where I was the Counselling Co-Ordinator, and the Domestic Abuse Refuge Support Group Barnsley, where I counselled children aged 5 to 18, and adults who had witnessed or being subject to domestic abuse
My role as Counselling Co-Ordinator at The Turning Point involved supervision of trainee and qualified therapists and I was the Consultant psychotherapist for referrals from NHS and CAMHS
I worked as a private practitioner at The Orchard therapy centre in Horsforth for eight years but now my practice is in Roundhay, Leeds

My first session
The first session is a consultation and establishing why you want therapy, identifying your issues, and also what you want to achieve from it. This is very important and the session can be for one or two hours
Any questions or worries relating to your therapy and what to expect can be addressed and to determine your availability and initially sessions will be weekly
As the client’s therapy progresses, appointments may be fortnightly rather than weekly
This can be related to couples counselling but this will be discussed with the client or clients
You may be asked to complete a questionnaire or test to help with your assessment
if you are, this will be fully explained but the questionnaires are not compulsory
This session is used to discuss your issues, the therapy or therapies to be used, and the different types of therapy available to help with your issues
Also can discuss your availability for sessions if you choose to book a course of therapy
Appointments can rescheduled if necessary but 24 hours notice is required otherwise there will be a charge
Exceptions can be made depending on the circumstances and why the appointment had to be rescheduled

The first session would be to ascertain that the supervisor and supervisee could establish a way of working that would be beneficial and meet the necessary requirements of the supervisee’s choice of intervention
The supervisee needs to be open and honest when discussing their clients and also to be able to discuss any counselling problems or issues in their practice
Therefore choice of supervisor is very important
