About me and my therapy practice
I have 24 years Counselling Experience working in the National Health Service, University Sector and State School Sector including lead counsellor in the dynamic environment of an inner London secondary school for several years, counselling school staff and pupils.
I have an established private practice counselling young people, adults and couples and I work within the charity sector as a counsellor and counselling supervisor.
Qualified as an Integrative practitioner I use person centred counselling as a core model integrating psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy, relationship therapy, coaching, solution focussed therapy and creative therapies including Effective Freedom Technique, psychodrama, art and music.
Practice description
I aim through counselling to provide a safe and confidential space in my work with young people, adults and couples. I have a wide experience in working with stress, anxiety and depression causing loss of confidence and sometimes a complete loss of self and manifesting in symptoms such as stress in relationships, addictions, anger outbursts, OCD, self harm and other ways of being and thinking that no longer work for us.
Through the counselling relationship, help and support, we can safely explore issues surrounding intense negative feelings and symptoms and ways and techniques for releasing worrying and negative feelings aiming for new ways of thinking and being, always with a view of moving forward in a more positive sphere.
How we feel can also affect our ability to express our wants, needs and desires in our relationships and counselling aims to open our pathways not only to have more confidence within ourselves but also in our relational lives.
My first session
I offer an initial counselling session. This enables us to meet in person or online and for you to decide if counselling may be of help and support. Normally the counselling session is 50 minutes - 1 hour however the initial counselling session may be longer 1 hour 20 minutes so allow some extra time.
Following the initial counselling session if you decide that counselling may be of help we can work up to 6 counselling sessions on specific issues of concern. If after six weeks you are feeling more positive and horizons opening then that is great. However the duration is flexible and some clients choose to stay for a second set of 6 sessions or to have fortnightly counselling for extra holding and support. (Some clients stay for longer term therapy to work through deeper issues). I always say you should only come to counselling if you feel it is of help and support.
