About me and my therapy practice

I am a  Retired Mental Health Nurse and Practising Senior Psychotherapist with over 40 years experience of working within the National Health Service. I have also served 4 years with the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps prior to my NHS work.  I set up and now run my own  Private Practice as a Psychotherapist and CAT skills Therapist in 2016 .Over the years I have developed a special interest in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Trauma, Sexual Abuse, Harm Minimisation, Relational and Attachment issues. I have worked extensively with Childhood Sexual Abuse and Trauma.  I receive regular monthly clinical supervision privately for the work that I undertake with my clients.

In August 2022 I joined Jesmond Therapy Centre in Newcastle upon Tyne as a Senior Psychotherapist. I work in Jesmond one evening a week and provide both Counselling and longer term Psychotherapy to individuals from various walks of life including Students from the local Universities here.

As a therapist I aim to work holistically with my clients, taking into consideration their physical problems as well as their emotional and behavioural issues. This is an integral part of my work as I believe that both physical and mental pain are inextricately linked. For those clients who have both physical and mental health problems I am able to explore nutritional and exercise needs liasing with the GP if required.  I am able to provide a written assessment report for an additional fee if the client requests this service.

Individual sessions are available to clients aged 16 and over.  There is no upper age limit.

I hold a full DBS License ( Adults and Children).

Practice description

I run my private practice from home and offer a beautiful space where you can relax and hopefully feel at ease in your surroundings. My therapy dog is normally present and likes to sit or lie next to you. If you are not comfortable with dogs please let me know as I have plenty of carers available for him!

There is ample on street parking available within this quiet area of Killingworth.

I offer a full comprehensive Mental Health Assessment, Emotional  Wellbeing assessments and suitability for Counselling and Psychotherapy assessments. Included in these assessments is a Risk Assessment which is monitored throughout the course of your therapy.

I aim to work collaboratively with each client offering bespoke care plans and therapeutic sessions. Each person is unique and whilst we all experience similar feelings, eg loss, grief, anger, sadness too mention but a few, we all deal with our pain and suffering in different ways. No two clients are the same and that is why I offer tailor made care plans. If required and with your consent I will liaise with your GP or other health professional to ensure that you are receiving a holistic and therapeutic experience.

In addition to assessments, therapy sessions and review appointments I also provide between session resources if indicated. I also now offer walk and talk therapy if requested.

My first session

My first session is an opportunity for us to meet in comfortable and beautiful surroundings and to explore what brings you to therapy at this point in your life. We will look at what is currently troubling you and how you have been managing your difficulties; what works for you and what doesn’t. We will also explore your expectations of therapy and to determine some initial goals that you may want to achieve.

I may offer to assess your symptoms of low mood , anxiety or other specific problems that you present with if you are comfortable with this and if it is appropriate to do so.
