About me and my therapy practice

From my own experience I know that finding the right therapist can be a challenge. It can be about clicking with the right person as much as about their experience or qualifications.

Building a safe and trusting relationship is the key to successful therapy and I believe that it needs to be flexible to meet the needs of each individual. Since qualifying I have worked as a therapist within the voluntary sector alongside clients of all ages, backgrounds and seeking therapy for a large range of issues. I’ve also continued to undertake training to explore using and making images, writing and pop culture references alongside talking in therapy.

Practice description

I am a qualified, BACP accredited, person-centred therapist and I’m committed to maintaining a safe and ethical practice, working alongside clients in a collaborative and creative way to help them explore their difficulties in a way that feels right for them.  I use she/her pronouns and am a disabled neurodivergent counsellor.

I have experience of working with a variety of issues including family and relationship breakdowns, bereavement, depression, low mood, self esteem and self image difficulties, risk taking behaviours, self harming, academic anxiety and issues relating to disability, to neurodiversity such as ADHD and autism, and to gender identity and sexuality.

My first session

First sessions can be a little different. I try to make a full assessment of what's happening for you, and what has brought you to counselling so I will ask a lot more questions than might feel usual. This will cover a range of topics from practical information, like contact details to what has prompted you to get in touch and life is like more generally for you right now.

It is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you might have about me, how counselling works and what you might expect. We can go through the contract we both agree to in order to work in a safe and appropriately boundried way. If for any reason you don’t think I am the right person for you to work with, I can signpost you to other therapists who might meet your needs.
