About me and my therapy practice
My philosophy of supervision is that it is a safe space within which the supervisee feels supported whilst they discuss, in depth, their work with clients.
For me, supervision is a joint venture inspiring the desire to attend to the needs of the client. I therefore encourage supervisees to use supervision to stand back from their work, reflect, and engage with the understanding that problematic situations often lead to the discovery of new meanings.
Supervision helps sustain the personal resourcefulness that is required to carry out the work as a counsellor or psychotherapist. Therefore supervisees can expect formative feedback, increasing awareness of possible blind spots and vulnerabilities, which are inevitable when working with clients. From this, they can gain a greater understanding of both the client and their own reactions and responses. This brings clarity to their appreciation of the dynamics within the therapeutic relationship and also a comprehension of the consequences of their interventions.
I encourage supervisees to reflect on the way the distress and pain of their clients affects them; inviting this to be addressed in supervision reduces the chance of the supervisee becoming burned out or overloaded.
Individual supervision is highly valuable. However, group supervision also has benefits, which include the richness of peer feedback and multiple perspectives, which are helpful to both personal and professional development. Details of fees and arrangements are available on request and are agreed collaboratively.
