I work from
9.30am to 6.30pm from Mondays to Thursdays.
I see no more than 4-5 clients a day to make sure I'm able to be fully present for each person I work with.
About me and my therapy practice
Have you ever been told to 'stop making a fuss and just get on with it,' or that you’re ‘too quiet’, ‘too sensitive’ or conversely, that you’re ‘too much’? Do you now not know what to do with your feelings or how you’re ‘supposed' to be?
I'm Charlotte, a registered psychotherapist, working in Castle Cary.
Since gaining my MA in 2010, I have worked with numerous people of all ages, many of whom have felt their natural emotions have been dismissed and invalidated and that they are different from the norm or somehow 'wrong'; including those who are highly sensitive, introvert or neurodivergent.
I have also helped people who've felt held back by or stuck in anxiety, shame, grief, depression and trauma.
I've seen countless times how restricting it can feel to worry about how others may perceive you and to not be able to let go or move on from these feelings.
I know how hard it can be to not feel accepted as you are and I know the courage it takes to choose and stick to your own path, because of this I'm passionate about helping others create their own unique path in life and thrive.
I now view my traits of introversion and high sensitivity, as superpowers, particularly in my work as a therapist.
They enable me to naturally sit with people's feelings and engage in deep reflection, helping them illuminate and address those shadowy areas that are often denied or ignored, but would greatly benefit from being worked through and released.
I was brought up with a ‘stop making a fuss and just get on with it’ attitude, with little time or space to talk about or process uncomfortable feelings or challenging situations.
I have turned this around and made a successful, life affirming career out of doing the exact opposite!
I’m often told what a calming influence I am and have been described as, ‘warm, gentle, compassionate and deeply intuitive with a quality of stillness which is both containing and allowing, offering clients an experience of being accepted for who they are with no agenda’.
Practice description
I am an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Listening empathically and fully accepting you as you are, is at the heart of what I offer during therapy sessions.
I am trained to Masters level and work from home, offering face to face, online or telephone sessions to young people aged 12 and above and adults of all ages.
The main basis of my approach is person centred, drawing on other ways of working where appropriate. You may find it most useful to express your feelings through talking, or you may wish to work more creatively, using sand tray therapy or art materials.
No matter what feelings or circumstances have brought you to therapy, I aim to create a safe, encouraging and containing space where you can explore your unique personality, feelings, view of the world and experiences that may have led you to how you feel today.
You may not know why you feel the way you do and that’s ok; I'm here to listen to your story and help you join the dots.
I will guide you to let go of the unhelpful ways of being that may be holding you back, fulfil your potential and be the person you really want to be.
We will work together to understand why you are where you are and how you can make positive changes for your future.
Most importantly, I want to support you in being who you want to be; allowing you to embrace your authentic self and live your life with healthy ways of dealing with the myriad of emotions that we all experience along the way.
We can work long or short term, dependent on your needs.
I am a registered member of BACP, which means I am bound by their Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and their Professional Conduct Procedure. I have regular supervision, keep my skills up to date using Continuing Professional Development and have current professional indemnity insurance. I have BUPA recognition and a DBS check.

My first session
You might feel nervous about approaching someone for help and this is quite normal.
Often once people have asked for help or disclosed something they felt they never could, they wish they had done it much sooner.
Before our first session I will email you a counselling and psychotherapy agreement for you to read through and see if you have any questions.
It is important you feel comfortable with me, so if you'd like to find out more before we work together, I offer a free of charge, introductory 15 minute phone or online call if you would like to ask me any questions or see if we would be a good fit in working together.
If you decide to go ahead and book an initial session, this is when you can go into more detail about what is currently troubling you and how long you've felt like this.
At the end of the session, if you decide you'd like to continue coming, I will usually ask what your expectations and hopes or goals would be for attending sessions.
This is so we're both on the same page and we can regularly review whether the sessions are meeting your needs.
I'll also give you the opportunity to ask me any questions.
There is no obligation to continue after the first session if you don't want to.
If you do wish to continue, the following sessions will ideally be weekly for 50 minutes and are your opportunity to talk about whatever is on your mind, past, present and future.
We will explore overwhelming or problematic feelings and work together to identify more healthy ways to deal with difficult feelings as they arise in your life.
