About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Mel and I have over 10yrs experience working as a counsellor. In that time I have worked with various ages from teenagers to older adults, exploring a range of emotional challenges and life experiences. I have also worked with the deaf organisation Sign Health providing counselling to Deaf adults.
Alongside my private practice, I work part-time as a psychological therapist for the NHS.
My training focused on a Humanistic model. I offer a person-centred approach to help you understand yourself better, and my post graduate qualification specialises in working with people who have experienced trauma.
You may be looking for counselling because you feel your thoughts and feelings are stopping you live the life you want, or you want to understand more about your emotional responses to people or situations. Whatever it is, I believe you hold the answers to alleviate the difficult feelings you experience in life, but sometimes it can be hard to grasp what these are. I offer a time and space that can support you to explore these feelings, and as your self-awareness develops so does the potential to live a life that feels right for you.
Practice description
I offer face to face counselling from a room in my home in Langport, or online via Teams. My aim is to work with you to support you to understand what ever struggles you are having. Sometimes articulating yourself through conversation can be difficult so I can also offer creative ways of working using a range of materials to help you express yourself.
My first session
I offer a free initial consultation, in person, online via video or telephone. This is my time to ask some questions about what brings you to therapy to ensure I have the necessary knowledge to support your specific issue, and your opportunity to ask any questions you have about the therapeutic process and how I work.
If you decide that I am the person you feel comfortable enough to share your experiences with, then we will book in your first session. In this session we will discuss the boundaries of our relationship, what you hope to be different when you finish therapy, and start the discussion about how your hopes can be achieved. Reaching out for support may have you experiencing a range of emotions, so whilst I have described how this session is structured, we will go at a pace that suits you.
