About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist working with individuals and couples. I also offer therapy for people with sex/porn addiction.
I offer 'therapy with soul', which means I try to look beyond the immediate problem, or symptom, and work in a way that honours the client's deeper journey. I specialise in relationship problems, anger, depression and loss of meaning. I have particular experience working with men, including anger, addiction, sexuality and midlife challenges.
Much of the effectiveness of therapy comes from the relationship between client and therapist. If we can form (over time) a collaborative, trusting relationship then that will have a positive knock-on effect in your life generally.
I agree with psychologist Carl Jung's statement that the goal of therapy is to become more whole, to learn how to include and integrate all the different parts of ourselves. That includes the parts that we may not like or even be conscious of.
Practice description
Usually I suggest working in an open-ended way, which means there is no set end point but we can periodically review how the therapy is going.
Generally speaking therapy is not a quick process, as often the issues people bring have been developed over many years and may be linked to early childhood experiences. Having said that, many clients begin to feel more positive after a few sessions.
My first session
I charge a reduced fee of £10 for individuals and £20 for couples in the introductory consultation session. The first session is a chance for us to meet and for you to tell me what's been troubling you. It is also an opportunity for you to see what I'm like and how I work.
I usually ask some general questions to find out more about you, but the main focus of the first session is you describing what brings you to therapy. I will let you know if I think I can help you and offer some general thoughts on how therapy works and when you can expect to notice positive changes.
I will also briefly discuss practical issues, such as cancellations, frequency of meeting etc. Usually we will agree to meet weekly, at the same time each week.
