About me and my therapy practice
I am a registered MBACP (Acred)counsellor and have practiced as a counsellor since the year 2000 and have worked using an integrative model of therapy. This is where several distinct models of counselling and psychotherapy techniques are used together to meet the individual needs of the client.
I work with couples, individuals, children and young people.
I have two private therapy rooms one is located in York and the other is located in Thirsk.
Flexible appointment times are available to suit you, please leave a contact number and email address if using the online contact form.
I am also a qualified supervisor able to provide individual and group supervision to Therapists, and professional practitioners.
Practice description
I am an integrative therapist which means I am able to draw on a range of therapies that suit the clients presentation.
I continue to expand my level of training by attending regular training sessions to keep my knowledge and skills up to date.
I like to offer an initial consultation/assessment session which is where I will ask you if you would to provide a history of the problem/s you’re experiencing or to tell “your story”.
Sometimes people are not necessarily experiencing a problem as such, but they just want someone to talk to who can be neutral with them. This is different to talking to friends and family members, and can add value to self. A time that is just for you is important.
The sessions are for up to 50 minutes (family sessions 60 minutes, walk and talk sessions 1.5 hours) and will be time to look further into why you are seeking therapeutic support at this time. In family or couple counselling it is ok for everyone to have a different therapeutic goal.
My first session
• The first session, known as the consultation/assessment session may include talking about past and present life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. Talking about these things may take time and it is important that you feel comfortable with what you share, therefore it is not necessary for all things to be included in this session.
• I will do my best to help you and discuss the best approach to support you
• It’s important that you feel you’ve had the opportunity to tell me about what’s troubling you and what your expectations are regarding moving forward in counselling. Following the assessment, I will share with you my recommendations with regards to moving forward should we decide to proceed together or it maybe that I it is necessary to sign post you to a different service, which I would reccomend to you rather than do for you..

Practice description
I am an integrative therapist which means I am able to draw upon a range of therapies in which I have received training and feel competent in offering support .
The first stage of working together is to agree a day/time to meet, which can be either in person therapy session at my practice or online. Following this I will send you a counselling agreement form to read, consider, sign and return.
The initial session /often called the assessment session is aimed at making sure you feel comfortable with my way of working.
I will ask you if you would like to give a history of the problem/s you’re experiencing or to tell “your story”.
Sometimes people do not have a problem as such, but indeed they have reached a stage where they feel that talking to someone neutral would be of benefit to them, this is very different to talking to friends and family and can be of great benefit in supporting individual growth.
Having time that is just for you, with no advice, no telling you what to do, can be of great value in helping to create a positive outcomes.
The session will be for up to 50 minutes (family sessions 60 minutes, walk and talk sessions 1.5 hours) and will be time to look further into why you are seeking therapeutic support at this time. In family or couple counselling it is ok for everyone to have a different therapeutic goal. An extended session can be offered if agreed in advance, extensions will be charged at the hourly rate..

About me and my therapy practice
I work as a supervisor offering supervision to trained counsellors and Trainee counsellors . I offer flexible appointments to meet individual needs, in person sessions are offered at my York practice and for those who are not local to me I offer online sessions.
I offer an integrative model of therapy which means I am able to draw from a range of modalities including person centred, systemic, solution focused, CBT, systemic and relational.
Supervision supports the counsellor with their case work and aims to support the personal and professional development of the counsellor.
I specialise in supervising and facilitating the work of counsellors, practitioners, teachers and other professionals who work with adults, couples, families and children and young people. I also facilitate reflective practice groups which supports counsellors and provides an opportunity to share best practice and network.
I consider the relationship between counsellor and supervisor to be of great importance and aim to build a relationship together where you feel that our time together matters, time where you feel heard, supported and encouraged to provide the best therapeutic support that you can.
