Availability

I'm sorry that I have no availability for new clients at present. I will update when space is available.

About me and my therapy practice

You can talk to me about thoughts and feelings that might be hard to bring to other people in your life. Together we can try to understand what’s going on and why. We might make links to the past as we cast forward to what may be hoped for in the future. I can support you now, and as we move toward changes that will make a difference to you, your relationships, or your workplace.

Practice description

Based in the UK, I work with adults over the age of 16 years.

My qualifications include a Post-graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Abertay and a certificate from the Online Therapy Institute to ensure remote work with clients through video conferencing, phone or email is of a good standard. In my practice I am keen to find out how you might prefer to use your sessions (talking, working on strategies, looking back, looking forward, learning more about your issue etc). I work flexibly and collaboratively using methods from a range of counselling theories.

I am a member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework and good practice guidelines.

During our introductory appointment we can discuss a pattern that suits you and whether you would like to talk onIine via Zoom, by phone or face to face in my private home office in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire.

Generally counselling works best when the sessions are consistent (usually weekly) and will last an hour. We will review how things are going at regular intervals and will work towards an ending that feels right for both of us.

My first session

If you are interested in going forward, it is a good idea to book an initial one-hour session so that you have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about what is involved in therapy. This is also a time for me to hear about what thoughts, feelings or experiences bring you to counselling and "why now"?

I will want to gather a brief history and find out what supports your mental health as well as the things that are depleting it at present. From your story I can begin to get a sense of what's troubling you and we can discuss where I fit and how I can help.

The initial session is charged at half the standard hourly fee and does not oblige either of us to continue.

I will do what I can to make sure that you get the most from your counselling experience. My aim is to provide a high quality, professional, flexible service that takes account of what you need, what concerns you have and what will help.

Please email , call or text to arrange an appointment for a one-off consultation to talk through your concerns and find out whether meeting with a counsellor who is independent, not emotionally involved, and focused on your needs is an option you might consider.

Availability

I'm sorry that I have no availability for new supervisees at present. I will update when space is available.

I work with both qualified counsellors and students on placement. You can meet me online or in person in my home office in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire.

Our supervisory arrangements (timing and method of delivery) will meet the criteria set by your accrediting body or training provider and will be frequent enough to support the co-creation of a genuine relationship.

This generally means a one-and-a-half hour appointment per calendar month for qualified counsellors, or two one-hour appointments for trainees, depending on your caseload.

About me and my therapy practice

With experience of working with counsellors and students who hold different theoretical frames and are at varying stages of their professional life, I respond to what you bring, to the benefit of your client.

Every session is unique and acknowledges the context in which you work, your counselling approach, the content of your sessions with clients and what that is bringing up for you.

I believe that the important supervisory tasks are: supporting good practice and challenging blind spots; encouraging skills expansion and being research informed; facilitating reflection on emotions and reactions; as well as sustaining counsellor resourcefulness for this challenging and demanding work.

I am trained in Pluralism (University of Abertay), and I creatively integrate characteristics of a pluralistic way of working into my supervisory practice.

Practice description

As a practice manager of a busy counselling charity from 2015 to 2022, I gained experience in supporting a team of counsellors through a wide range of challenges and dilemmas. As a mentor of trainees on placement I have written supervision reports for counselling courses (CBT, Person Centred, Pluralism, Psychodynamic, TA).

My formal supervision qualification was the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Supervision. I completed this course delivered by CRUSE Scotland in 2017/18 and I am also one of their national team of supervisors.

In another sector I have been involved in mentoring, enabling and supporting work for all of my professional life, and I bring that experience to my supervision practice.

My first session

Feel free to get in touch to arrange an appointment for a one-off consultation to talk about how we might work together. My first session with you will be charged at half the standard hourly rate and does not oblige either of us to continue.

This first session will give us an opportunity sense whether we have potential to work well together. I believe that the connection we make and the relationship we form is foundational to work in supervision.

It is important that you get what you need in supervision and that you can be open and honest with me as you reflect on all aspects of your counselling work.

Following our initial meeting each of us can consider whether we might be a good fit in terms of theory and practice.

If we do decide to work together, we'll agree a contract that will cover: the purpose and goals of supervision; the context and content of supervision; how we will evaluate the supervision process together; and the roles and responsibilities of the supervisee and supervisor.
