About me and my therapy practice
My aim is to bring clarity, sensitivity and creativity to my work, with warmth, maturity and humour, offering fresh insight in supportive, affirming ways. I have an impartial perspective, working both intuitively and with knowledge. Holding a perspective of self-determination, I view therapy as joint exploration, which may include exploring our resources, strengths, qualities alongside our limitations, frailties, vulnerabilities. Recognising we are all unique, I don’t hold a “one size fits all”, tick-box approach, acknowledging that no one counselling approach explains the complexities or holds the truth for everyone. I have over 30 years of experience working with people going through changes in their lives. Please visit my extensive website.
Practice description
Working at your own pace, I offer Online, Skype, Telephone and face-to-face, in-person counselling. I aim to bring clarity, creativity and sensitivity to my work with warmth, humour and maturity. With my passionate beliefs of self-determination and responsibility, I offer fresh insight in an affirming, supportive and jargon-free way, checking with you if what I'm saying, resonates and fits. Having an impartial perspective, I usually work both intuitively and with knowledge, experience and understanding of what brings you to counselling. I recognise people can't simply be reduced down to a diagnosis, symptoms or issues. Viewing the counselling as a joint exploration. I value the humanity in us all and acknowledge our own resources, qualities and strengths alongside our frailties, limitations and vulnerabilities.
I value each person's uniqueness and respond in an individual way to your circumstances and at the same time appreciate the interconnectedness of what we human beings hold in common - that beneath our differences are fundamental shared experiences and central concepts, that creativity, the human heart and suffering are universal.
I welcome, value and respect people's diversity, uniqueness, autonomy. My counselling experience includes working with men and women, old and young, who are straight, bisexual, lesbian, gay, whatever our sexuality, skin colour, of many nationalities and cultures those who are religious, hold spiritual beliefs, atheist and agnostic. What clients value the most in the counselling is being comfortable with the counsellor and being in a collaborative relationship.
My first session
In our initial meeting I tend to ask a lot of questions and my role is to get to know you, listen to what's happening in your life now, find out a little about your past and also explore how you may want to live your life to your full potential. We can also see if we feel comfortable working together and if counselling/therapy is suitable. I will summarise what I've picked up and feed this back to you. This is quite detailed usually lasting up to 90 minutes.
