About me and my therapy practice
With over 12 years’ experience, including working as a GP Practice Counsellor, I can help you through difficult life experiences, overwhelming feelings, and patterns of behaviour that see your problems repeat themselves; towards stability, peace, happiness, fulfilling relationships and the life you want.
I believe, who we really are is joyful and unique. However, sometimes our relationships (past or present), experiences in life, environments we inhabit, and the emphasis we put on our external world can cover up our connection to ourselves: the real pathway to our joy, satisfaction with who we are, and the life we want. This can be confusing and overwhelming and manifest in many different ways which causes us to feel stuck in a cycle of suffering. You may feel anxious, depressed, worthless, guilty or angry. You might have found ways of coping which provide a certain amount of relief but recognise this is short lived and the same old feelings or problems keep occurring. You may self-harm, self-sabotage, use addictive coping behaviours, or go from one toxic relationship to another. You might feel that because of what you’ve been through, the pain and unhappiness you carry is now a part of you. I assure you it isn’t.
Who you really are (joyful and unique, remember!) is always with you, waiting to reconnect. I see my role as helping you nurture that connection and move from suffering towards a more stable, peaceful place, whilst assisting you in working out what you want and how to achieve it. You really matter. I can’t think of anything more valuable to yourself and your relationships than to invest in your inner being. There is nothing more rewarding than doing the work of healing within and receiving the endless benefits.
I am an experienced and professional counsellor. I have worked effectively as a GP practice counsellor, university counsellor, secondary school counsellor and counsellor for professionals. I now run a successful private practice.
Practice description
I offer a warm, compassionate approach. Along with a safe, neutral space for you to unpack, explore and understand difficult emotions and experiences, and ultimately, begin to heal. I will listen attentively without judgement or criticism to everything you feel comfortable sharing.
I won’t tell you what you should think or do, instead, I will help guide you in finding your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with problems or difficult emotions. You will be amazed at the solutions that come to you, they will feel authentic and free from internal resistance bringing a sense of ease and control to your life.
Depending on what you want help with I will tailor my approach to best suit your needs. This may include offering information, inviting you to go through specific exercises designed to help with your problem, or might be a more general discussion about how you’re feeling and your experiences in life.
Counselling is known to change lives. You can achieve better relationships, an improved sense of clarity, empowerment and resilience, together with a feeling of relief and ease with life. Even if your problems haven’t gone away, you should find it easier to cope with them and feel happier.
Fees
- First session £40. An introductory 1 hour session, giving you a chance to ask questions and begin exploring what has brought you to counselling.
- Following sessions £50 each. Sessions last 1 hour. Most people start by coming once a week, although this is completely up to you, we will discuss frequency at your first appointment. We will regularly review progress to help determine the total duration of our work together, ensuring it doesn’t last longer than necessary.
Payment is required the day of the session.
My first session
It's so important to find a counsellor you feel comfortable with. Your reading so far together with your initial contact with me will help to see if we might work well together. You can call or text me on 07884 006594 or, email me on livenowcounselling@outlook.com. Set aside some time (about 10-15 minutes) and privacy and use the method you'd most prefer. Please provide the following information:
- Why you are seeking counselling. A brief description that you feel comfortable sharing with me is all that’s needed.
- What days/times you’re available should you decide to book an appointment.
- Whether you'd like sessions in-person, via video-call, or a mix of both.
I am available to take calls during my normal working hours, which are Monday - Thursday daytime. If you get my answerphone, please leave a message including the best times for me to return your call (this can be outside of my normal working hours). Occasionally, the first email I send can go to spam/junk, so please check there if you're waiting for a response.
There will be no pressure to make an appointment.
Should you decide to go ahead we will agree a day and time for your first session. It’s normal to be nervous and to have fears about what to expect. I intend to make things as comfortable and easy for you as possible. In time, those fears will go. There will be some basic paperwork to complete before this session which can be emailed or available on the day. I will need a few practical details, for safety reasons, such as your GP, an emergency contact and any medication you may be on at present.
We will make a contract together setting a foundation for how we will work, detailing what you can expect from me, such as respect, confidentiality and reliability. Similarly, what I can expect from you in terms of commitment to attending sessions.
