About me and my therapy practice

My name is Laura and I am a qualified Psychodynamic therapist.

I feel we all deserve to know who we are and understand ourselves so we can grow and develop. Psychodynamic therapy looks at the root not just the surface, bringing forth understanding of our true selves.

Everyone's life experiences are unique, therefore I tailor the therapy to the individuals needs. I can work long term or short term. This is something we would discuss in the initial consultation.

Practice description

I work with a Psychodynamic approach, giving exploration to your thoughts and feeling in a safe, confidential environment, without judgement and with honesty.

I work with you to bring awareness to the unconscious processes that we can find ourselves repeating, looking at inbuilt defence mechanisms that perhaps no longer serve the person you have become.

My first session

The initial assessment offers a space to take a breath, a space to bring everything you have been carrying. During the assessment we will explore what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to take away from the therapy. In the first session I will be asking you questions about your history including where you are presently in your life.

The most important part of this first session is about you feeling comfortable and at ease to work with me.

Initial sessions usually last around one hour. Assessments can be hard and leave us feeling emotional. It can be useful if you are able to make space after the session, to take some time before going back into the world.

About me and my therapy practice

I use a Psychodynamic approach giving exploration to your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential environment, without judgement and with honesty. It offers an opportunity to explore yourself to look within and understand those thoughts that float in and out of your mind which can bring forth a mixture of emotions, that can at times be very hard to understand or control.

Therapy offers insight and understanding helping you work towards an awareness of the self. It gives the opportunity to discover inbuilt defence mechanisms that perhaps no longer serve the person you have become as a result of the traumas we all experience in life.

Counselling can be a quiet, safe space to breathe and think about your life. Who you are, where you are going and what you wish to gain. It can be a space to grieve the losses you have experienced in your life and the changes that happen throughout your life.

Practice description

Psychodynamic therapy works with the unconscious, bringing it to the conscious, creating an awareness of thought and choice. It helps you to see things from a different perspective giving insight to the thoughts and feelings you may be struggling to understand.
