About me and my therapy practice
I am a counsellor and clinical supervisor. For a number of years I have worked with trauma and sexual and domestic abuse with both young people and adults. The impact of trauma often goes unacknowledged and is misunderstood by others. Trauma can have a continuous and wide-ranging impact unless explored.
I have a person-centred approach and I believe that we each have the innate ability to move forward but at times, accessing this ability can feel impossible. Events, relationships and circumstances in life can be difficult for numerous reasons. Sometimes these can feel insurmountable and cause us to lose our sense of hope. Thinking about having counselling is a major and sometimes daunting first step but is a brave move forward.
I qualified with a BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling in 2011. I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am also a qualified and experienced clinical supervisor undertaking one to one and group supervision sessions.
Practice description
I work face to face and also undertake phone and zoom counselling sessions.
Mental health can be fragile, but in therapy, by gaining an understanding of how we work as individuals and what may be going on for us internally can be illuminating and help us to grow. I see the counselling relationship as a journey made together to explore, discover and to unearth hidden resources. Working creatively with words, art and nature can also support change and re-ignite hope.
I am interested in the ever-developing knowledge of neuroscience and trauma and the brain/body connection.
My first session
The first session will be an opportunity for me to answer any questions you may have about counselling and to look at what your expectations of counselling are and how we may work together.
