About me and my therapy practice
Previous employment includes: CAT Therapist in the Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT's), as a CBT Therapist and Counsellor in the NHS Talking Therapies Service, Counsellor at Maggie's Cancer Charity, and as the School Counsellor for John Cabot Academy, Kingswood.
My approach is open, warm and professional, providing a safe and confidential environment for the people I work with. I deeply value the counselling process and relationship as unique to each individual. Coming to therapy to explore, understand, and work through anything that may be troubling, whether that is your past, present or both, can be difficult to do. Working together, I will use my extensive training and experience, to help you through the difficulties you are facing.
My approach will depend on your needs and your goals. I will be thoughtful about your experiences and respectful to your wishes. I have extensive experience when working with a range of complex histories and problems. Working within the NHS and other settings for more than 15 years, I have a proven record of helping many people to see past what may be troubling them, in a way that they can feel in control and gain a new insight and understanding to what may be going on for them.
Practice description
I work collaboratively in a way that will best suit individual needs and goals.
I draw upon all of the experience, training and knowledge I have, and offer a wide variety of ways to work. We will work towards achieving your goals and aims which we will plan together.
CAT can be timed limited or used in a more flexible way. It is a talking therapy and uses a language to understand what goes on for you, in a way you would not have before. It gives tools and techniques to look deeper into your patterns so you feel equipped to have better awareness and can make conscious change.
EMDR is a way of working that needs preparation and planning. Processing past experiences safely in a contained way is my propriety. You will be fully involved in the process and resourced to be able to work on whatever it is that is bothering you.
I am an open and collaborative therapist, and believe in joint working to reach your aims, encouraging questions and exploration of what may be more suited to your style of working.
My first session
The first session varies greatly depending upon your needs and feelings.
Some people bring me a list of all the things they want to work on.
Some people don't know what it is, or be able to put into words, what they need.
I am here to help you ease your anxieties and formulate what your aims and goals are, and to talk through a plan of how we could reach those goals.
