About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered, accredited counsellor with 15 years+ experience as a practitioner, supervisor and counselling lecturer. Having worked in a range of counselling settings: primary care mental health, bereavement, sexual abuse and drug and alcohol counselling, I understand that different people need different things, at different times. I will work with you to understand your needs and preferences.
People come to counselling for many reasons, either as a result of past or current life events, or to understand more about how they are thinking or feeling, to discuss life changes, or to develop coping strategies. I will offer you a safe and confidential space to help you make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experiences.
I work with a range of client experiences and concerns including; anxiety, low mood, addiction, bereavement, work pressures, life changes, behaviour changes, personal growth, identity and relationship issues.
I use all of my training and experience to help you to work towards an understanding and resolution to the issues that bring you to counselling. In our counselling sessions you can to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to work with you to make changes where you choose and to help you to find some resolution to the issues that bring you to counselling.
I use my skills and experience in person centred practice alongside my understanding and training in other approaches such as CBT, Mindfulness, TA, Schema Therapy and solution focused work to tailor our work to best fit you and help you to reach your goals.
Practice description
I have been in private practice since 2018 working with EAPs, insurance companies and direct referrals, as well as being a supervisor of both trainee and experienced counsellors. I have a comfortable and accessible therapy room in Denbigh with good public transport links and parking opposite the building.
I am an ACTO certified online and telephone therapist and as well as in-room sessions, I offer sessions via video call or phone and have completed CPD training to offer walk & talk therapy, CBT and to work with couples.
I trained as an integrative counsellor and believe that all approaches to therapy have value, what is key is ensuring you feel respected and accepted. I now work in a primarily humanistic-pluralistic way and will work with you to agree the best approach to your therapy.
I believe that therapy works best when you feel you have a safe confidential space to talk about your life and anything that may cause you to feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or emotional.
I can offer both short and longer term counselling subject to regular review.
You can find out more about me and my practice on my website www.adintracounsellingandsupervision.co.uk
My first session
In our first session I will begin to develop an understanding of you and the difficulties that bring you to counselling as fully as possible, and to work with you to find a way of working that suits you, this will include a comprehensive assessment. Although it may seem a little daunting, it is important in helping both of us to gain a sense of who you are and what concerns you at this point in your life.
I offer introductory sessions and I will be happy to answer any questions you might have about me, my qualifications and experience, or about how we might work together. It is equally important that you get an opportunity to decide if you wish to work with me beyond this first session.
It may be that your difficulties are best served by a specialist agency, or another practitioner, if this is the case we can discuss this in the initial session and will support you in finding the most appropriate practitioner for you and your concerns.
