About me and my therapy practice
If you are reading this description because you feel stuck, confused, frustrated, low or at your wits end with a problem you just can't solve (or find peace with) or you are struggling to find any joy or purpose in life (perhaps after a loss) or you are worrying incessantly about something you may not be able to change then I would love to try and help you. I have encountered many significant difficulties over the years personally and my search for greater understanding and solutions has helped me to overcome them and continue (most days!) to feel happy and fulfilled and enjoy rewarding relationships with others. I would love to share what I have learnt with you and see if I can help with your present challenges. I am particularly interested in OCD and anxiety related problems. I work from home in a very private, comfortable, safe and quiet setting.
Practice description
I draw on a collection of approaches that I have found to be particularly helpful for myself and others to navigate the difficulties life sometimes throws at us, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, evolutionary psychology, metacognitive and cognitive therapy, , existential therapy, spiritual therapy and Buddhism, compassion focused therapy, person-centred therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, psychoanalytic and psychodynamic therapy and rational emotive behavioural therapy. Inspirational theorists/practitioners for me include Arnold Lazarus, David Burns, Aaron Beck, Paul Gilbert, Steven Hayes, Donald Winnicott, Mark Epstein, Adrian Wells, Albert Ellis, Windy Dryden, Paul Hauck, and Randolph Nesse. Helping you to develop a more reflective and detached attitude to your own thoughts and to make better decisions and to connect more deeply with your emotions to find the courage to take the ongoing actions needed to work towards important goals and projects or to adjust to life's transitions are central pillars of my approach.
My first session
Years of research shows that much of the success of therapy will depend on the quality of the relationship that develops between us. I therefore suggest that the best way forward is simply to take the plunge and try it for one or two sessions and take it from there. Everything you tell me is kept strictly confidential and if it doesn't work out I am hopeful that there will be another therapist nearby maybe listed just above or below who can really help you through whatever is troubling you. Good counselling generally improves lives and can sometimes lead to wonderful outcomes . Any questions please feel free to call or email me. Whether I hear from you or not, I wish you all the best on your journey through life.
