About me and my therapy practice

Life can be challenging and at times we all need help.

Some people find seeking help difficult, so well done for taking this step!

As an experienced BACP accredited counsellor, I provide a confidential space to help you explore your concerns and find new ways to respond to life’s challenges.

Clients tell me I am compassionate and easy to talk to. They value the new insights and perspectives they gain, the approaches used and practical suggestions offered, that help them move forwards.

Over the last 14 years I have supported hundreds of students, staff and clients in Universities, the NHS, charities and in private practice. My former teaching and research careers spanned over 20 years and regularly volunteered in community settings.

I would love to have the chance to work with you too!

What issues I can help with:

  • Feeling anxious, sad, lonely, frustrated or grieving?
  • Changes at home, at work or at University?
  • Always caring for others but have no-one to care for you?
  • Finding it hard to adjust to chronic health issues?
  • Have you lost your sense of who you are or self-confidence?
  • Does your inner critic say you are ‘not good enough’?
  • Does your ADHD mind have ‘100 tabs open’, feel overwhelmed and confused?
  • Are you navigating relationship difficulties?

I have counselled people experiencing these and other challenges:

work/study, changes in family, relationships and life changes, loss, identity, anxiety/depression, health and ADHD issues

Why do clients choose me?

  • BACP accredited and registered counsellor
  • Experience of working with similar issues.
  • Specialist in counselling staff, students/trainees in health, social care and educational settings, including the NHS, Universities and charities.
  • Range of approaches offered
  • Seeking Acceptance Commitment therapy (ACT) or enjoy working creatively.
  • Flexibility to meet individual needs or preferred ways of working.
  • Personal recommendations or attending my training.

Please contact me if this sounds like I could meet your needs too.

Practice description

How do I work?

I was originally trained in the person-centred approach and value being open, non-judgmental and respect individual needs, autonomy and potential for change.

Additional training has enabled me to offer other therapeutic approaches that my clients and I find helpful and effective.

My work draws from a range of therapies including

  • Acceptance, behavioural, compassionate and mindful approaches (ACT Therapy) and creative interventions.
  • Working with different ‘parts of self’ including a person’s ‘inner child, critic and wise-mind' and ‘inner conflicts’
  • I integrate these approaches to meet your individual needs and preferred ways of working.
  • I work flexibly and adapt therapy to you, rather than expecting you to fit the approach.

Who do I work with?

  • Adults – 18 years or above and who live in the UK.
  • I specialise in the support and development of professionals and students/trainee counsellors working in health, social care and education settings.
  • People from diverse backgrounds, races and cultures, those with disabilities or who are neurodivergent or LGBTQI+

My private practice does not work with children and young people under 18 years, couples, or adults who are actively suicidal, struggling with addictions or who have complex mental health issues.

Instead I suggest other services, so you can access the specialist support you require.

What types of sessions do I offer?

  • Integrative counselling
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Creative therapy
  • Brief-focused, well-being appointments
  • Work, study and ADHD support

My first session

It is important for us to discuss if I am the right therapist for you, so I offer a free 15 mins call before your first appointment.

Before your 1st session:

Step 1) We arrange a free introductory video or phone-call.

Step 2) I will send you a session invite, a welcome pack and forms to complete.

Step 3) You will accept the invite and complete and return the forms.

Step 4) I will send you the video link.

During the 1st session

We will explore the issues bringing you to therapy in more detail, go through your forms, our working agreement and make an initial plan for therapy, plus book future appointments.

Later sessions are more in-depth sessions and allow more time to explore issues using helpful approaches.

I offer regular reviews to check if therapy is helping, any changes needed and helpful suggestions to empower you work towards a mutually agreed ending.

How many sessions will I need?

  • Most clients have between 6-26 sessions
  • Longer term therapy is available with regular reviews.
